Delegation of the NAS of Belarus lays flowers at the Obelisk on the 9th km of the Moscow highway in Uruchcha

On May 7, on the eve of Victory Day, the delegation of the NAS of Belarus, headed by Chairman of the Presidium Vladimir Gusakov, laid flowers at the Obelisk to the dead prisoners of war and civilians on the 9th kilometer of the Moscow highway in Uruchcha.

The official ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairmen of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, academic secretaries of Departments of Sciences, heads of organizations, historians, representatives of public organizations, young scientists. The monument was erected in memory of 30 thousand Soviet prisoners of war, partisans and civilians who were shot and tortured by the Nazi invaders in 1941–1943. The names of several dozen soldiers who died in the Uruchcha area are stamped on the memorial plate. The staff of the Institute of History helped to search for the names of the Great Patriotic War heroes buried here.

Vladimir Gusakov noted that scientists of the NAS of Belarus are painstakingly working to restore the names of those who still rest in unmarked graves. "Today, when there is falsification and distortion of historical facts in the world, criminals are rehabilitated and winners are silenced, it is more important than ever to convey the truth to people," Vladimir Gusakov stressed. "According to the latest data, it has been established that more than 12 thousand settlements were burned and damaged in Belarus, and about 300 villages and towns shared the fate of Khatyn. Is it possible to forget these horrors? The entire national economy of the country was destroyed. Losses amounted to about 75 billion Soviet rubles, but these are only direct losses. The men and husbands did not return. Women were engaged in post-war reconstruction," Vladimir Gusakov drew attention. "For Belarus, May 9 is a holy holiday that reflects triumph, victory and joy."

On the eve of Victory Day, employees of scientific organizations of the NAS of Belarus visit places of military glory, carry out work on the improvement of graves for scientists who participated in the Great Patriotic War and lay flowers at memorial complexes, obelisks, monuments, mass graves and graves of unknown soldiers.
