23.08.2017 On 22 August 2017, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has presented a pilot model of the first Belarusian electric car at the national proving ground for mobile vehicles of the NASB Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering. There were also demonstrated new developments of the NASB scientists on the subject of electric vehicles such as a motor wheel and an electric bike created on its basis (Republican Unitary Enterprise the Instrument Manufacturing Plant "Optron" of the NAS of Belarus), and a super capacitor (the Scientific and Practical Materials Research Center of the NAS of Belarus). The event was attended by Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Semashko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, representatives of ministries and departments of the country.

Calculations, modeling, manufacturing and testing of all components of the power drive and its electric vehicle control system were performed in less than 1 year (from August 2016 to July 2017) under the State program of scientific research “Mechanics, metallurgy, diagnostics in mechanical engineering”. Thus, the entire component base of the traction electric drive of the first Belarusian electric car is localized in Belarus.

According to Sergei Poddubko, Director General of the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the NAS of Belarus, the car is designed for urban conditions. “The motor's output is 60kW or some 80hp. The power is sufficient for urban conditions. The top speed we have tested in this proving ground is 110kmph,” said Sergei Poddubko.

Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, noted that today scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will have to localize the production of the Belarusian electric car as much as possible. In his words, the entire electrical system of the presented electric car was developed by Belarusian scientists. Ways to start batch production are under consideration. According to Vladimir Gusakov, the experimental car boasts a very high quality. "Foreign experts have come here, including from Germany. They showed a strong interest and suggested cooperation," he said.

While the developers only had import the drive battery from the Russian company Ener Z (Saint Petersburg), which had won the relevant tender. The objective is to start production of batteries in Belarus. The Scientific and Practical Materials Research Center of the NAS of Belarus has come up with a new effective material, which can be used to create super capacitors to power electric drive vehicles. Valery Fedosyuk, Director General of the Scientific and Practical Materials Research Center of the NAS of Belarus, said: "We have obtained prototypes of a super capacitor, as well as we have developments of a drive battery. It is assumed that domestic development will cost significantly less than imported products, but not at the expense of quality."

A motor wheel and an electric bike created on its basis were also presented at the event. According to Nikolai Yankevich, Director General of the Republican Unitary Enterprise the Instrument Manufacturing Plant "Optron" of the NAS of Belarus, Belarusian electric bicycles can be on sale in the spring of 2018. In his words, the leadership of the Republican Unitary Enterprise the Instrument Manufacturing Plant "Optron" of the NAS of Belarus expects to organize production at its own base but at the same time to keep the brand "Aist", as this trademark is known not only in Belarus, but also abroad.

The engine capacity of the electric bike is 600W, it runs on a battery. To date, the Republican Unitary Enterprise the Instrument Manufacturing Plant "Optron" of the NAS of Belarus is actively developing a series of electric vehicles, in particular electric bicycles of various modifications, gyroboards, unicycle, electric scooters, electric kick scooters etc.
