On 29 March 2019, the Organizational and Technical Council of International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) held a meeting in the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, Georgia, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Russia. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was represented by a delegation led by the Chief of Staff of the NAS of Belarus Pyotr Vityaz who is the Deputy Head of the IAAS.
The meeting considered the functioning of 23 IAAS scientific councils (four of them are in formation), including representation of organizations in scientific councils and interaction with members of the IAAS OTC. Pyotr Vityaz presented the draft IAAS development plan for 2020-2021 and the resolutions of the IAAS Council, which will be discussed by the heads of the IAAS member organizations in September 2019 in Dushanbe.
The participants of the meeting agreed to work out additional mechanisms for promoting joint programs within the framework of the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) in the Belt and Road Region, in which members of the International Association of Academies of Sciences are represented. In addition, the issue of admitting new members to the IAAS, which can be implemented at the scheduled meeting of the IAAS Council in Dushanbe, was touched upon.
