At Native Language Week Dictionary of Belarusian Literary Language to be presented at the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library

On February 22, at 3.00 p.m., a presentation of a single-volume Dictionary of Belarusian Literary Language will be held at the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library. The Dictionary was compiled by the team of lexicographers of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics under the scientific editorship of Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Ihar L. Kapyloŭ. The Dictionary has been published by the Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia Publishing House.

This new edition of the Dictionary is based on the Dictionary of Belarusian Literary Language by Michail R. Sudnik and Mikalaj N. Kryŭko which reflected the basic vocabulary of the Belarusian language of the 1980-1990s years.

The new edition continues and develops traditions of national lexicography. It is focused on reflection of current state of vocabulary and phraseology of the Belarusian literary language and the processes that demonstrate the dynamics of the modern Belarusian lexicon.

The single-volume Dictionary of Belarusian Literary Language contains more than 65,000 words and provides an explanation of their meaning. It is also a guide to spelling, accentuation, inflection, phrases and grammatical characteristics. All changes in spelling, being approved by the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On rules of the Belarusian Orthography and Punctuation" (2008), have been followed in the Dictionary.

The Dictionary is designed for linguists, specialists, and for a wide range of readers interested in the Belarusian language.

The presentation will be attended by employees of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics, the Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia Publishing House, university professors, and others.
We invite anyone interested to visit the Information and Exhibition Center of the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library (vul. Surhanava, 15, room 110).
