Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of NASB Presidium, holds meeting with cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy

On 11 August 2017, Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, met with the cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The focus of the negotiations was the preparations for the 31st International Congress of Association of Space Flights Participants which will be held in Belarus in September 2018. The sides also discussed participation of Russian cosmonauts in this forum.

As emphasized by Vladimir Gusakov, "We attach particular importance to the holding this Congress in Belarus, which will be attended by representatives of dozens of countries. This event will play an important role in strengthening the image of Belarus as a space power. In this regard, your guidance and advice on organization, plan to carry out, and participants’ visit program are of great importance. "

Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, presented the cosmonaut with the achievements of Belarus in the space field. As was stressed, with the launch of the Belarusian spacecraft together with the Russian spacecraft "Canopus-B" № 1 on 22 July 2012 our country has become one of the world’s space states and had an opportunity to participate in international structures and projects on the use of outer space for peaceful purposes. At the sixty-eighth session of the General Assembly, on 1 November 2013, Belarus became a member of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Vladimir Gusakov said that at present Belarus and Russia have initiated a new Russian-Belarusian spacecraft remote sensing of ultra-high resolution (RBS). The set of technical characteristics of the new RBS, the creation of which Russian and Belarusian experts have begun this year, will allow obtaining space images with the settings that are not yet available on the world market, and thus guaranteed the demand for the manufacture of such spacecrafts. You can talk about serial production. In addition, new opportunities arise for users of space-based information, digital cadastral models of large cities and other high-tech information applications become reality, and the level of tasks solved to enhance the defense capacity and security of Belarus and the Union State is significantly increased. As is know, on 30 June 2017 in Moscow Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, and Igor Komarov, Director General of State Space Corporation ROSKOSMOS, signed a Memorandum of Intent on the creation of a new Russian-Belarusian remote sensing spacecraft (RBS), which planned to be developed in close cooperation between Belarusian and Russian enterprises.

Petr Vityaz, Head of the NASB apparatus, Vladimir Podkopaev, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the NAS of Belarus, and Sergey Zolotoy, Director of the NASB "Geoinformation Systems" Unitary Enterprise, Chief Designer of the Belarusian Space Remote Sensing System took part in the talks Oleg Novitskiy got acquainted with the exposition of the Museum of NASB history and the NASB permanent exhibition "Domestic scientific achievements for manufacturers". The International Congress of the Association of Space Flight Participants, which will be held in Belarus in September 2018, will bring together delegates from more than 30 countries. As expected, the Congress will last in Belarus within a week. Delegates will be invited to visit several institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and to get acquainted with the achievements of Belarus in the space field. The International Congress of the Association of Space Flight Participants annually gathers prominent cosmonauts and astronauts, representatives of scientific research institutions and national space agencies. The Association of Space Flight Participants is an international non-profit organization that brings together astronauts and cosmonauts from many countries. It was established in 1985 to exchange experience in the field of manned spaceflight.
