NASB Institute of Sociology to organize scientific and practical seminar within framework of Weeks of Sustainable Development 2017

On 18 October 2017, the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Belarus (Minsk, vul. Surhanava 1/2) will hold a scientific and practical seminar "Sustainable Cities and Settlements and Well-Being of Citizens as an Important Component of Sustainable Development Goals" planned within the framework of the Weeks of Sustainable Development 2017.

The event is to contribute to further activities on scientific and practical justification and popularization of the sustainable development ideas. It will discuss the potential for effective interaction of representatives of government structures, business, civil society, and international organizations within the global paradigm of sustainable development. The seminar also aims at uniting the scientific and civil society in order to implement the ideas of sustainable development, and strengthening the movement for sustainable development in the Republic of Belarus.

The seminar will highlight the importance of 17 sustainable development goals adopted by the UN member states and discuss mechanisms for implementation of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Belarus until 2030 aimed at eliminating poverty, combating inequality and injustice, and solving the problems associated with climate changes. Particular attention will be paid to discussing synergetic effects of interaction between science, various economy sectors, social and cultural sphere.
