This year the following events are timed to the Mother Language Day at the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the NAS of Belarus (Minsk, vul. Surhanava, 1/2, room 302):
19 February at 11:00 – scientific and practical seminar "World Slavic Linguistics bibliography on the Internet: principles of functioning and practical use in scientific work". The seminar is devoted to one of the most important components and tools in scientists’ and journalists’ work – scientific information. Participants will receive recommendations on the practical use of the bibliographic base iSybislaw and learn about a variety of search tools for effective work with bibliographic information.
19 February at 14:00 – entertaining and educational event "Mova-Quiz" for creative youth of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted by the Council of Young Scientists. Quiz participants will be able to demonstrate their creativity, logic, knowledge of the Belarusian language and culture.
20 February at 10:00 – meeting of Belarusian linguists with students of Minsk gymnasium №23 at the Institute of Linguistics. During the meeting, the presentation "History of Belarusian Writing" will be held.
20 February at 14:00 – round table "Belarusian language and business" will be held. Representatives of Belarusian companies (Velcom, A-100, etc.), advertising agencies, banks, the Ministry of Trade and Antimonopoly Regulation, etc. are invited to the meeting.
21 February at 10:00 – International scientific conference "Belarusian language in sacrum sphere: history and modernity" will start its work.
21 February at 14:00 –presentation of anniversary edition of "Psalter" in translation into modern Belarusian language.
21 February at 14:30 – round table "In what language should we speak to God" dedicated to the problems of religious terminology usage.
22 February at 18:30 – scientific and popular event "On the pages of the Historical Dictionary of the Belarusian Language” will take place at the State Literary and Memorial Museum of Yakub Kolas where you can learn how to read the ancient texts and talk about the place of the Dictionary in modern culture. ČARKA song duet will help to create the historical atmosphere at the event.
