On 23 May 2018, the CAS President Mr. Bai Chunli was solemnly presented with a Diploma of a foreign member of the NAS of Belarus. The Diploma was presented at the meeting of the NASB Presidium devoted to the development of cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The election of the NASB foreign members were held during the session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on November 16, 2017. As a result of an open vote, six foreign members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were elected. Mr. Bai Chunli, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, famous world-class scientist in the field of nanotechnology and scanning probe microscopy, was one of them. On 23 May 2018, the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held talks with the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, got acquainted with the exposition of the Museum of History of the NAS of Belarus, and the permanent exhibition of the National Academy of Sciences "Native Science Achievements - to Production." At a meeting of the NASB Presidium, a presentation of promising areas of cooperation was held, and mechanisms to expand cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chinese Academy of Sciences were discussed. Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, emphasized the interest of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the field of nano- and biotechnologies. The space industry, new materials, lasers, medical technologies, and engineering are among the promising areas of cooperation.
The CAS President is to visit five scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, namely A.V. Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the NAS of Belarus, the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials, the Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research – Sosny, the Republican Manufacturing Unitary Enterprise «Academpharm», and B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the NAS of Belarus. The President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Mr. Bai Chunli is scheduled to take part in a tree planting ceremony on the Alley of Honour of the NAS of Belarus.
