Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical seminar of think tanks is held at Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus

On 9 August 2018, the Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical seminar of think tanks "Cooperation between Belarus and China in the context of implementing the One Belt and One Road Initiative: challenges and solutions" was held at the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The event was organized by the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chinese Development Institute with the support of China Merchants Group under the current agreement on scientific cooperation.

The purpose of the scientific and practical seminar is to discuss problems and solutions for the implementing projects of the One Belt and One Road Initiative in the Republic of Belarus and to give a new impetus to the Chinese-Belarusian strategic cooperation.

The problems of the scientific and practical seminar covered the following key areas:
1. The One Belt and One Road Initiative and the objects of innovation infrastructure.
2. The One Belt and One Road Initiative and standards coupling.
3. The One Belt and One Road Initiative and risk management.

More than 70 representatives of scientific organizations, universities, government bodies, diplomatic corps, business community, analytical centers and mass media of the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China took part in the Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical seminar of think tanks "Cooperation between Belarus and China in the context of implementing the One Belt and One Road Initiative: challenges and solutions".

Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanities and Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kovalenya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic Of China to the Republic of Belarus Cui Qiming, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the People's Republic of China Kirill Rudy, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Sergey Shcherbakov, President of the Chinese Institute of Development Fang Gang, and Director of the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Valery Belsky addressed the seminar participants with welcoming speech.

In the framework of the discussion panel "The One Belt and One Road Initiative and the objects of innovation infrastructure" (moderator – Yuri Alekseev, Director General of Science and Technology Park of Belarusian National Technical University "Polytechnic") thematic reports were made by Hu Zheng, Director General of Industrial Park Development Company, Tatiana Vertinskaya, head of World Economy and Foreign Economic Studies Department at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, and Zhao Huirong, head of Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Baltic Countries Department at the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

In the framework of the discussion panel "The One Belt and One Road Initiative and standards coupling" (moderator – Hu Zhengyu, head of Sustainable Development and Marine Economy Department at the Chinese Institute of Development) thematic reports were made by Elena Morgunova, Deputy Director General on standardization and food quality of the NASB Scientific and Practical Center for Foodstuffs, Zhang Qi, Deputy Director of the Department of External Economic Studies of the Center for Development Studies under the State Council of the People's Republic of China, and Arthur Pokrovsky, head of the laboratory of high pressure and special alloys at the Physical-Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Within the discussion panel “The One Belt and One Road Initiative and risk management” (moderator – Elena Dostanko, Director of the Center for International Studies at the faculty of international relations of the Belarusian State University) thematic presentations were made by Liang Guining, Director of the Foreign Investment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation Commerce of the People's Republic of China, Aleksei Matsevilo, head of the Main Department of Economic Integration of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, and Hu Zhengyu, head of Sustainable Development and Marine Economy Department at the Chinese Development Institute.

Summing up the results of the Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical seminar of think tanks "Cooperation between Belarus and China in the context of implementing the One Belt and One Road Initiative: challenges and solutions" Valery Belsky, Director of the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Fang Gang, President of the Chinese Development Institute, noted the need to deepen further scientific cooperation, implementing new interaction forms and expanding the list of joint projects.
