Third International Scientific Seminar “Vegetation of Marshes: Current Problems of Classification, Mapping, Use and Protection” to be held in Grodno

On 26–28 September 2018, the State Scientific Institution «V.F.Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus» and Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno hold the Third International Scientific Seminar “Vegetation of Marshes: Current Problems of Classification, Mapping, Use and Protection.”

Reporters from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania, representing different scientific, educational and nature protection organizations, will participate in the seminar. It is planned to discuss the results of research on biodiversity of marshes, to consider topical issues of classification and mapping of vegetation, as well as of monitoring, practical use and protection of marshes ecosystems.

The third seminar day is scheduled to provide a field excursion to the Republican Landscape Reserve "Ozyory". The next day (September 29, 2018), a field seminar is to be held on the basis of Novy Dvor Secondary School (Svisloch District, Grodno Region). There will be a round-table discussion on the issues of rational and sustainable management of wetlands in protected areas, a field excursion to the Dikoe mire of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. The National Park employees, as well as biology and geography teachers of schools of the Svisloch District will also attend the event.

By the beginning of the seminar, a collection of papers “Vegetation of Marshes: Current Problems of Classification, Mapping, Use and Protection” is planned to be published.
