NASB delegation to take part in enlarged meeting of Bureau of Inter-Academy Council on Union State development

On 23-24 May 2019, an extended meeting of the Bureau of the Inter-Academic Council on the Union State development will be held at the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Petrozavodsk). A delegation from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, led by Academician Sergei Chizhik, First Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium, will take part in the event.

The meeting will address a number of important issues including the formation of a unified scientific and technological space of the Union State and projects of promising fundamental and applied research under the interaction of Belarusian and Russian science (interregional context). The participants will also focus on interaction between scientific organizations of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, joint research subjects for in the interests of balanced regional development of Russia and Belarus, and interaction of scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Special emphasis will be given to the topics for new projects of the Union State programs, including remote sensing of the Earth to monitor forest fires; environmentally friendly fertilizers; new abrasive materials; specialized highly economical and environmentally friendly engines on natural gas fuel. Preparations for a joint meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scheduled for June 2019 (Moscow), will be discussed in Petrozavodsk. The issue of scientific support for the development of strategic directions of spatial-territorial and socio-economic development of Russia and Belarus for the long term (United Eurasia megaproject) will be discussed at this event.

The leading scientists of Belarus and Russia will also consider the results of the activities of the Inter-Academic Council on the Union State development issues in 2018 and the work plan for the period 2019-2020.
