The basic scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are Research Institutes, and also Centres and other organizations with the rights of Institute. The scientific organizations of the Academy can form research associations, scientific and scientific-engineering complexes in the structure of the Academy accordingly to the legislation of the Republic of Belarus and under the decision of the Presidium of the Academy. The scientific organizations of the Academy are based on a state property, they are the legal persons and work on the basis of the statutes confirmed by the Presidium of the Academy. The scientific organization of the Academy (association, complex) is headed by its Director (General Director) elected by secret voting on General Meeting of Department of the Academy from among the leading scientists for the period of five years and confirmed in the office by the Presidium of the Academy.
In scientific organizations of the Academy, the Scientific Councils are created, which order of election and competence are determined by the organization's statute and the legislation of the Republic of Belarus.
