International cultural contacts of Belarus in post-WWII decade. pp. 5--12

Summary: Trends and forms of foreign cultural contacts of Belarusian republic during 1945--1955 have been considered. Effect of UN membership on cultural links was analyzed. Evolution occurring in international cooperation during first post-war decade and its dependence on home and foreign situation was demonstrated. New archive findings illustrate methods of governmental policy in the field of literature and art, disclose mechanisms underlying major ideological campaigns. Specific examples of certain republican bodies participating in international relations have been presented.

Structure, status and activities of Roman Catholic Church in Grodno region from 1795 to 1830. pp. 13--19

Summary: This article is devoted to the status of Roman Catholic Church at the territory of Grodno region in the first third of the 19th century. The problems of organization and activities of the secular and order clergy are discussed in the article. Statistical data are also presented. So far Belarusian historians have not focused upon this topic.

Summary: The article dwells upon origin of Khotimsk town. The chronicles date its foundation back to 1714 when Great Prince of Lithuania K. S. Radziwill granted his name to new township.

Regression analysis of magnate dominion Smargon in 17--18 centuries. pp. 25--27

Summary: The main economic tendencies revealed at microlevel by applied regression analysis for magnate dominions of Rech Pospolitaya in 17--18 centuries were exemplified by Smargon: reduction of peasant households, increase of townsfolk and gentry estates, correlation between the total income of magnate dominion and liabilities of nobility, gentry, peasantry, townsmen.

Incorporation of Gomel and Rechitza regions into Belarusian republic in 1926. pp. 28--31

Summary: The article raises the problem of territorial formation of Belarus by tracing the process of incorporating Gomel and Rechitza regions into republican borders.

Funk Yu.V.
Open (temporary) form of Jewish charity in Belarus of 19-early 20 century. pp. 32--35

Summary: The article describes specificity of alms institution in the Jewish community. As the main peculiarity of this phenomenon the author points out the absence of a large number of beggars at the territory of Belarus in XIX -- the beginning of XX century due to the fact that Jewish community was more inclined to the closed forms of charity. Therefore the open form of Jewish charity was "temporary" and appeared only when religious festivals took place to help the most socially insecure strata of the population in cold seasons. The article contains interesting data about interim committees of open ("temporary") form of Jewish charity.

Preliminary data on pagan sanctuaries along the Sozh river. pp. 36--39

Summary: The author has discovered the settlements which are regarded as shrines by a number of features according to the archaeological research right along the Sozh in 1995--1996. They are supposed to be the centre of communities; their location proves it. Along the Sozh on small tributaries there are Slavonic settlements and tumuli joined to shrines. Such sanctuaries are mostly situated up the river. They seem to be hidden deep inside the bank. The age and cultural affiliation remain unknown. They are presumed to exist till X--XII centuries and to serve as the shrines of Radimichi tribe.

Legal problems of unifying customs and common habits in international commerce. pp. 40--44

Summary: The study is devoted to legal aspects of unifying customs and common habits in international commerce. The notions of custom and common habit were delimited, correlation of unification methods was considered and the legal nature of unifying acts, particularly well recognized, e. g. Incoterms, the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits and the Uniform Rules for Collections was established. Recommendations improving regulation of relations in international commerce have been provided.

Moral principles of labour legislation. pp. 45--51

Summary: The article analyses moral principles of the labour law -- justice, humanism, freedom of employment and contract. It investigates how Belarusian labour legislation reflects these principles; contains several recommendations about renovation of labour legislation.

Berazowskaya L.R.
Legal norms in training and skills upgrading of employees. pp. 52--56

Summary: This paper is focused on employee's right of professional training. Rules regulating training standards have been examined. Industrial branch affiliation of these regulations and their position in labour legislation is debated. The author stipulates that contract on professional training and upgrading of employees should be incorporated as the separate clause in Labour Code.

Limited liability companies in the system of business relations. pp. 57--65

Summary: The role of Limited liability companies in the system of economic associations and partnerships is studied in the article in the form of comparative analysis of legislations of the Republic of Belarus, Germany and other states, as well as legal practice implication. The status of partnership, society in participation, commandite, corporations, companies with authorised capital, other associations is analysed. Their legal pecnliarities and prospects are discussed.

Summary: The article provides an economic substantiation for the need to change approaches used in implementation of foreign trade policy. It defines the main guidelines of foreign trade reforms to stabilize and ensure sustainable development of Belarus economy.

Genesis of social-class structure in the Soviet society. pp. 72--76

Summary: Genesis of class structure in the Soviet society has been shown. Major social subjects and steady relations between them in the Russian empire of early 20 century, Soviet Russian ib the twenties-thiries and later Soviet society are characterized. Such classes typical for the former USSR are described: 1) managers; 2) low-grade civil servants; 3) labor; 4) intellectuals; 5) collective farm peasantry; 6) individual artisans (disappearing group); 7) criminals (syncretic stratum).

Summary: The paper investigates dynamics, including promotional and odverse factors, of Chinese population in historical range from 2205 B. C. to theend of 20 century, grown as a result to 1.3 bln people.

Some aspects of retirement pension system in China. pp. 85--91

Summary: The paper concentrates on social security system of the elderly and its socialeconomic effects in Chinese republic in the latest decades. Using statistical and sociological data, the author distinguishes between social security systems for urban and rural elderly population and assesses their future prospects.

Summary: The process of initiation and development of publicassociateons of the Belarusians in XIX--XX c. has been monitored, their specificity, functions, classification, place and role in social culture of the Belarusian ethnos has been analyzed in this article.

Artistic time and space in Belarusian folklore theatre. pp. 98--102

Summary: This study is the first in the Belarusian ethnotheatrical science to analyze the role of artistic time and space in the national folklore theatre, some creative techniques and their correlation with all kinds of intercourse between actors and spectators shown by the author in the previous paper. This work was carried out in a comparative key with similar investigations of Russian folklore theatre.

Summary: The facts indicate definite artistic principles and values embodied in V. Karamazaw's prose. Ethical supermission of the author is analyzed. It is claimed to structurally integrate all his literary pieces.

Problem of authorship attribution in literary editions of Maxim Garetsky. pp. 121--126

Summary: The authorship problem remains one of most essential in Belarusian literature.It is especially relevant for specialists in textology. Heritage of Maxim Garetsky has been chosen as an object for the study spurred by the necessity to prepare the edition of complete works of Belarusian classic. The authorship of several literary and social-political essays has been confirmed in this paper. Examples of erroneous attribution are also cited.

Summary: Lexical composition, major word-forming categories and grammatical range of suffixal names of living creatures in modern Belarusian lanquage have been analyzed. The above-mentioned suffixal derivatives encompass 9 word-forming categories making up 3 tiers.

Summary: Dialectical names of water transport vehicles have been analysed on semantic, derivative and genetic levels.

Phytonyms in linguistic pattern of the world (Urtica L.). pp. 137--141

Summary: The study attempts to describe the semantics of nettle image as a symbolic linguistic unit of traditional culture. Phrases with the component "nettle' in Eastslavonic and Polish languages are studied in comparison with the cultural symbols of the phytonym.
