Contest for the best philosophical work among students and undergraduates is announced on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus
The Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus announces the Republican contest for philosophical works (essays) for young researchers. The contest invites students and undergraduates of higher education institutions and the Researchers Training Institute of the NASB of all specialties to participate in it. Organizers expect from the participants historical and philosophical studies, creative ideas in the field of social philosophy, science and technology philosophy, philosophy of culture and ask to share their vision of the place and role of philosophical knowledge in structural transformations of modern society at both national and global levels. Winners will be awarded with diplomas, gifts and the right to publish their work in scientific publications of the Institute of Philosophy. I congratulate you on your professional holiday - the Belarusian Science Day. Today knowledge has an important role for the formation of a competitive economy and improving people’s quality of life. The development of education and science is the key to independence and sovereignty of the state, raising cultural, intellectual and spiritual levels of the nation. Therefore in our country a lot of attention is given to preservation and strengthening of national scientific schools, the implementation of efficient developments. We rely on strong scientific and technical human resources that are justly the subject of our pride. Achievements of the Belarusian scientists receive international recognition and enhance the country's prestige on an international stage. But the main thing is that they bring a visible benefit to society.
Vladimir Gusakov took part in a press conference dedicated to the Belarusian Science Day
On January 28, 2016 a press conference dedicated to the Belarusian Science Day was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. The Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov, the Minister of Education of Belarus Mikhail Zhuravkov, the Chairman of SCST Alexander Shumilin, the Head of the Chief Department of Innovation and Investment Activity at the Ministry of Industry Valery Fishman and the Head of the Science Department at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus Vasily Filonjuk participated in the press conference.
The Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov informed the journalists about top-10 and top-100 of fundamental researches in 2015 and shared plans of the Academy for the year 2016. In particular, he announced that the creation of a new Earth remote sensing satellite would be started, a series of fundamentally new unmanned aerial vehicles and a series of supercomputers would be created. In addition, polar researches are expected to become a real breakthrough.
The best fundamental researches of the Academy will be presented at the exhibition of the most significant achievements of scientific, technical and innovative activities in Belarus, which opens on January 29, 2016 in the National Academy of Sciences during the celebration of the Belarusian Science Day. The celebrations will be held under the slogan "Science for the Knowledge Economy".
NASB participates actively in the Year of Culture in the Republic of Belarus
The Council of Ministers approved the Republican activities plan for the Year of Culture which is to be held in 2016.
The plan includes 121 points on basic directions of state cultural policy in Belarus. The National Academy of Sciences is appointed responsible for the following activities:
• development of bases of state cultural policy;
• a complex study on the development of culture and the presentation of the results at international events;
• sociological research on the culture, literature and reading;
• widening the use of the Belarusian language.
Belarus President scholarships awarded to 16 NASB graduate students
President Alexander Lukashenko has signed an executive order No. 17рп "On awarding scholarships to graduate students". Scholarships of the President of Belarus in 2016 have been awarded to 82 graduate students. Among them are 16 representatives of scientific institutions and organizations of the NASB. These are talented young graduate students doing thesis research in priority scientific and technical areas. Many of them are holders of the certificates confirming the application of the achieved results in the manufacturing industry, clinical practice of healthcare institutions, educational process, patents for inventions and utility models or approvals for a patent. The scientific achievements of the scholarship holders will be used by enterprises, organizations and social institutions across the country.
The adoption of the executive order No. 17рп is a testament of the support of talented young scientists and development of the scientific potential of Belarus.
In honor of the Science Day the first object of the Belarusian Antarctic station has been established
Before the Belarusian Science Day polar explorers established the first object of the Belarusian Antarctic station - three-section laboratory and living module. This was reported to the NASB leadership by the head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition Alexei Gaidashov. The personnel of BAS finished engineering activities for the commissioning of the first object of the Belarusian Antarctic station and proceeded to carry out research programs. Three-section specialized module is built to provide decent living and research conditions in the place of our expedition location in East Antarctica.

On January 27, 2016 100th anniversary of the corresponding member V.I. Nefedov is celebrated (1916-1999). V.I. Nefedov is known as a specialist in drama study, playwrite, professor (1964), Honored Artist of the BSSR (1975), the BSSR State Prize laureate (1966).

The NAS of Belarus held a meeting with representatives of Japan Tobacco Inc.
On January 27, 2016 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus held a meeting with Japan Tobacco Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) delegation. The purpose of the delegation's visit - negotiations to expand the Belarusian-Japanese cooperation.
At the negotiations the NASB side was headed by the First Vice Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei A. Chizhik.
Japan Tobacco Inc. was represented by heads and specialists from Japan, Russia and Belarus.
The visit of Korean scientific organizations delegation
On January 26, 2016 the delegation of scientific organizations of the Republic of Korea visited the NAS of Belarus. The First Vice Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei A. Chizhik and the Chairman of the Science Policy Committee at the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning Lee Sin-Doo discussed promising areas and mechanisms of scientific and technichal cooperation. In addition, the sides discussed possible forms of bilateral communication, including the exchange of delegations of scientists of both countries. The Chairman of the Science Policy Committee at the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning Lee Sin-Doo pointed out, “The purpose of our visit to the NAS of Belarus is to define and expand the possibilities of close cooperation between scientists of the two countries in the field of practice.”

On January 22, 2016 grand opening of the memorial sign "The Tree of Belarusian Science" and the portraits gallery of Full Members (Academicians) and Corresponding Members of the NAS of Belarus was held in the National Academy of Sciences. The event was dedicated to the anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus foundation.
The Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov, appealing to the Academicians, said: “The current year will be determinative in many ways for the Academy of Sciences due to the fact that 12 new state research programs, which should act as a generator of new knowledge and a source of intellectual property in the country, are starting. For this purpose we have created a system of interdisciplinary research centers for advanced research and scientific and technological clusters, their task is to define the points of growth and development for science and technology which have the greatest potential for generation of long-term scientific and technological progress. Scientific collectives and the Academy centers under your leadership should focus on development of solutions for the creation of an integrated system and the close relationship between science, economy and society."
Delegation of Japanese company Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. visited NAS of Belarus
On January 20, 2016 the NASB leadership held negotiations with members of the delegation of the Japanese company Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. The focus was on expanding promising areas of cooperation in industry, power and mechanical engineering. In the negotiations, the Belarusian side was represented by the heads of organizations of the NASB Department of Physical-Engineering Sciences. The First Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei Chizhik said, “Activities of the Kawasaki Heavy Industries company is a good example of how one can get good business results using science. The NAS of Belarus is ready to cooperate with the Japanese corporation on a wide range of areas.”
Belarus and Egypt Academies of Sciences signed Memorandum of Understanding
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology of Egypt signed the Memorandum of Understanding. The event was held on the results of a visit of a NAS of Belarus delegation headed by the First Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei Chizhik to Egypt. In Cairo Belarusian and Egyptian scientists conducted a seminar on the theme "New directions in research and innovation activities in Belarus and Egypt." The sides exchanged experience in research fields relevant for the both countries, including use of inorganic porous materials for water treatment, production of "smart" fertilizer and biosensors, molecular breeding of animals and plants, creation of agricultural machinery and equipment, Earth remote sensing and processing images from space. The delegation of Belarusian scientists also visited the Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute
and Zewail City of Science and Technology.

Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov meets Turkey Ambassador to Belarus Kezban Nilvana Darama
On December 24, 2015 Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov met Turkey Ambassador to Belarus Kezban Nilvana Darama. The focus of the meeting was on the issues related to the expansion of scientific and technical cooperation between Belarus and Turkey and possible participation of the NASB organizations in the Expo 2016 Antalya. “Belarus and Turkey must intensify their scientific-technical collaboration for the benefit of the economies of the two countries,” stressed Vladimir Gusakov at the meeting. He suggested signing a new trilateral agreement on cooperation between the NAS of Belarus, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and the Turkish Academy of Sciences.
