Famous scientist Vladimir S. Ulashchik passed away in his 75th year of life

On 17 January 2018, Vladimir S. Ulashchik, famous scientist and organizer of science, laureate of the State Prize of the BSSR, honored worker of science of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus passed away in his 75th year of life.

Vladimir Sergeevich Ulaschik is a well-known scientist in physical medicine and medical instrumentation. His scientific research is devoted to current problems of physical medicine, medical and biological physics.

Vladimir S. Ulashchik carried out a great scientific and organizational work. He was Chairman of the Belarusian Scientific Medical Society of Physiotherapists and Balneologists, a member of the editorial boards of 6 domestic and 5 foreign journals, the head of the Belarusian representation of the UNESCO International Educational Center for Natural Sciences, an honorary member and doctor of a number of universities and public academies, foreign societies for physical medicine and rehabilitation. He was also a member of the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission and Chairman of the National Commission on certification of sanatorium and Spa institutions. Vladimir S. Ulashchik was a head of the Physiotherapy and Balneology Department at Belarusian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education for more than 25 years. He was elected a deputy of the Supreme Council of the BSSR.

Acad. Ulashchik is a laureate of the State Prize of the BSSR (1986) and Honored Worker of Science of Belarus (1996). He was awarded with the Honorary Diplomas of the Supreme Council of the BSSR and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, badge “Excellent Worker of Public Health of the USSR” and “Excellent worker of the press of the Republic of Belarus”. Vladimir S. Ulashchik is the author of more than 600 scientific works, including 40 monographs, textbooks and manuals, more than 100 copyright certificates on inventions and patents. Acad. Ulashchik created the Belarusian scientific physiotherapy school. He trained 12 doctors and 45 candidates of medical and biological sciences and more than 5 thousand physiotherapists and balneologists.

Vladimir S. Ulashchik contributed significantly to the development of the national healthcare system. He worked as Deputy Minister and Head of the 4th Main Department of the Ministry of Healthcare of the BSSR from 1983 to 1986. Vladimir S. Ulashchik was a Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Belarus in 1987-1990. From 2005 to 2010 Acad. Ulashchik was Director of the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Since 2010 he worked as a head of Department, Chief Researcher at the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
