Conference on centenary of end of World War I to be held in Minsk and Smorgon

2018 On October 25, at 10:00 a.m., a plenary meeting of the International Scientific Conference “Belarus in Flames of the World War I (to centenary of the end of the World War I” will start its work at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The conference will be attended by the Head of a Representative Office of the Federal Agency for the CIS Affairs in the Republic of Belarus (Rossotrudnichestvo); a Counselor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus; diplomatic representatives of the USA and German embassies accredited in the Republic of Belarus; Chief of the Presidium of the Public Chamber of the Union State of Belarus and Russia; Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Legislation.

Scientists from Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan, and France will make presentations on problem issues of the World War I history.

Two scientific works on the history of the World War I will be presented there, namely the book Belarus in the First World War of 1914–1918 by M. M. Smolyaninov and the multi-volume work The First World War of 1914–1918 by Russian scientists.

As part of the event, there will be also two exhibitions, namely “World War I. Common History. General Memory of Allies in Arms” and “World War I in American posters.”

On October 26, the scientific conference will continue its work in Smorgon.
