Problems of streamlining and functioning of Belarusian medical terminology were discussed at Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics

The Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics held a round table "Belarusian-Russian state bilingualism: problems of streamlining and functioning of the Belarusian medical terminology" as a part of activities for the Week of Mother Language. The topical issues of the Belarusian medical terminology and the principles of fixing special vocabulary in the dictionaries of medical terms were discussed during the round table.

Opening the round table meeting, Ihar Kapylou, Director of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics at the Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the NAS of Belarus, noted that the development of special terminology is possible only in close cooperation of linguists with representatives of a particular branch of knowledge. The release of terminological reference books in the field of medical sciences was the occasion for holding the round table.

Academician Alexander Lokotko, Director of the Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the NAS of Belarus, Academician Alexander Lukashanets, Chairman of the Republican Terminology Commission at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Tatyana Gnedko, Deputy Academician-Secretary of the Department of Medical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and representatives of higher medical educational establishments participated in the round table discussion.

Opening the round table work, Alexander Lukashanets emphasized that only the language that is used in all spheres of public life has prospects in the future, therefore it is necessary to strive it is necessary to strive for the Belarusian language to be fully used in all spheres of our life, including medicine.
