Agreement on cooperation between NASB Institute of Energy and Lithuanian Energy Institute is signed
On 26-27 May, 2016 the 13th International conference of young scientists on energy issues was hosted in the Lithuanian Energy Institute (Kaunas). Director of the NASB Institute of Energy Anton Brin took part in this event as Chairman of the section "Materials Science and Technologies" and the official reviewer. At the meeting of the representatives of the Lithuanian and Belarusian energy institutions, the parties exchanged information about their research areas and scientific developments. By results of discussion of possible joint work on the disposal of waste, improvement of incineration technologies, pyrolysis of biomass with obtaining solid, liquid and gaseous fuels, biofuel production, increase the involvement of renewable energy sources in energy balance of the countries the agreement on cooperation was signed.
Belarusian Academic Quantum Center invites to public lecture on discovery of gravitational waves
On June 10, 2016 at 11:00 am a public lecture on the discovery of gravitational waves will be held in the NASB (Large conference hall, Nezavisimosti Ave., 66). The lecture provides information about the event that in the scientific world has been waiting for several decades. After a long search, the international LIGO Observatory discovered gravitational waves predicted by Einstein 100 years ago.
The event, which is the biggest achievement not only for astrophysics, but also for the world science in general, is opening a new branch of Physics — gravitational-wave astronomy. You will learn about the history of the search for gravitational waves, the LIGO experiment and new gravitational-wave experiments aimed at revealing the secrets of the Universe.
Prime Minister of Republic of Belarus Andrey Kobyakov presents state awards
Belarusian Prime Minister Andrey Kobyakov presented state awards to outstanding Belarusian workers. All in all, the Head of Government presented state awards to some 50 outstanding Belarusians on 1 June. Special thanks Andrei Kobyakov expressed to teachers and scholars, who also received state awards. "You are making a great contribution to the development of science, the development of innovative economy, knowledge-based economy, training the younger generation" — the Prime Minister stressed.
Protocol on the visit of Indonesian Institute of Sciences delegation is signed
On June 1, 2016 a ceremony of signing the Protocol on the visit of delegation from Indonesian Institute of Sciences to Minsk was held in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The document was signed by Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov and Chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences Iskandar Zulkarnain.
The Protocol noted that during the visit there was an active and detailed discussion of current interaction between the parties, as well as activities to promote cooperation in the short and medium term have been identified.
Meeting with delegation of Science and Technology Office of Dalian People's Government is held in NASB
On May 31, 2016 talks with a delegation of Science and Technology Office of Dalian People's Government (China) headed by the Deputy Director General of the Office Mr. Jian Sijin were held in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The delegation included representatives of the departments of science and technology, policy and regulation, market technologies governance, and also heads and managers of Dalian companies —Titanium LTD., Jinma Boron Tech. Group LTD., Dongfang Intellectual Property Agent. From the Belarusian side the negotiations were headed by the Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Aleksandr V. Sukalo.
The parties exchanged views on promising areas of cooperation and development of further joint work.
Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov meets with Chairman of Indonesian Institute of Sciences
On May 31, 2016 Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Vladimir G. Gusakov met with a delegation from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, headed by Chairman Iskandar Zulkarnain.
The guests got familiar with the NASB permanent exhibition "Domestic scientific achievements for manufacturers" and have held talks with the NASB leadership about promising directions of Belarusian-Indonesian cooperation in the field of science and education and the mechanisms for their implementation. The delegation is also set to visit the Powder Metallurgy Institute, Belarusian State University, and the Hi-Tech Park.
1st European Biothechnological School is opened in NAS of Belarus
Grand opening of the 1st European Biotechnological School was held at the NAS of Belarus. Such an event is going to be held for the first time. Leading professors from European Union countries and the Republic of Belarus who work in the field of biotechnologies will lecture young scientists of the Academy of Sciences, representatives of the Agrarian Sciences Department, the Biological Sciences Department and the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences. The lectures present the newest information on the latest achievements of fundamental and applied biotechnology, as well as promising research and development. English is the working language of the School.
RAS and NASB prizes laureates of 2015 awarded diplomas
On May 27, 2016 at a meeting of the NASB Presidium the Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov presented diplomas to employees of the NAS of Belarus organizations, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus prizes laureates of 2015. The prizes are awarded for outstanding scientific results obtained in the course of joint research by two groups of authors.

1st European Biotechnological School to work in Minsk from May 30 to June 4
On May 30, 2016 at 2.00 p.m. grand opening of the 1st European Biotechnological School will be held at the NAS of Belarus (Minsk, 66 Independence Avenue). The School will work at the Academy of Sciences to June 4. Such an event is going to be held for the first time. Institute of Genetics and Cytology of NAS of Belarus holds Round-table on issue of promoting comprehensive implementation of Cartagena Protocol
On May 25, 2016 the Round-table discussion on the international project "Capacity Building in order to Promote a Comprehensive Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the Convention on Biological Diversity at the National Level" was held in connection with the International Day of Biodiversity. The Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NAS of Belarus which functions as the National Focal Point for Biosafety, with the assistance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus were the organizers of the event.
7-th International Conference "Floriculture: History, Theory, Practice" held in Central Botanical Garden of NAS of Belarus
The Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus holds the 7-th International Conference "Floriculture: History, Theory, Practice" on May 24–26, 2016. The conference is attended by over 40 scientists from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Armenia, Azerbaijan and China. 36 botanical gardens present their materials at the conference.
Modern garden trends, tendencies of flower decoration of urban landscapes, the development of collections in botanical gardens and many other issues of selection and breeding of ornamental plants are raised at the conference.
Vladimir V. Shkurko celebrates his 60-th anniversary on May 25, 2016
On May 25, 2016 the Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Researchers Training Institute of the NAS of Belarus, Cand. Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), Docent Vladimir V. Shkurko celebrates his 60-th anniversary. Vladimir V. Shkurko has been working at the Researchers Training Institute since its foundation. First he was the Dean of the Physical Engineering Faculty, later he became the Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs. From December 2005 to April 2015 he was the Rector of the Institute. As soon as Vladimir V. Shkurko was involved in the foundation of the Institute, it is to a large extent through his activities that nowadays a wide range of educational programs, including master's, postgraduate, retraining, training, various courses of further adult education functions and develops successfully at the Institute.
3rd International Expert Seminar on Renewable Energy starts in NAS of Belarus
The 3rd International Expert Seminar on Renewable Energy "Renewable Energy: Potential, Achievements and Prospects" is being held at the National Academy of Belarus on May 25–27, 2016. The seminar program provides reports of experts from academic and university circles of Belarus, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan considering use, assessment of efficiency and implementation of specific solutions based on renewable energy in practice.

VI International Training Seminar “Dynamics, State and Monitoring of Forest Ecosystems in Specially Protected Natural Areas” for students, undergraduates, graduate students and teachers of the specialty “Forestry”, devoted to the International Day for Biological Diversity (22 May), was held on the base of the Braslav Lakes National Park on May 16–22.
State Scientific Institution “The V.F.Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany of the NAS of Belarus” together with scientific and environmental institutions and specialized leading universities from Belarus and Russia were the organizers of the seminar.
On May 24, 2016 package of documents on cooperation with organizations of Shandong Province (PRC) signed
On May 24, 2016 within the visit of the Shandong Province (PRC) delegation headed by the Province Vice Governor Wang Shujian to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, there was the signing of a package of documents on cooperation with organizations of this Chinese region. Among the documents there are the Agreement on Cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and the Linyi City Government, the Framework Agreement on Cooperation in transfer of technologies between the SSPA “Scientific and Practical Materials Research Centre of NAS of Belarus” and the Honghua Company specializing in new materials and a number of other agreements.
Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research (BRFFR) is 25 years old
On May 20, 2016 a solemn meeting of the Scientific Council and the Board of Trustees of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research (BRFFR), dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Foundation, was held in the NAS of Belarus. The event brought together leading scientists from Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. The Chairman of the Board of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) Academician Vladislav Panchenko, the Executive Director of the Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan Elchin Babayev, the Vice-president of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine Victor Sydorenko and others were among the guests of honor.

Academy libraries of Belarus and Lithuania agree on further cooperation
On May 19, 2016 representatives of the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus headed by the director Alexander Grusha visited the Wróblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. During the visit an agreement on cooperation was signed. Libraries confirmed the agreement concerning the mutual exchange of information about the publications received by the parties, expansion of mutual deliveries of scientific literature and cooperation in organization and conducting scientific research. At the workshop the parties agreed on the necessity of more active and close cooperation in these areas. In particular, they confirmed the intention to hold joint scientific and educational events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Francysk Skaryna publishing activities next year.
