A press conference dedicated to the World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day was held

On April 11, 2022, the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus hosted a press conference on the topic «Development of the space industry in Belarus at the present stage», dedicated to the World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day.

The speakers at the event were: Petr Vityaz, Academician, Head of the Aerospace Activities Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Deputy Head of the Space Research Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Sergei Zolotoy – Director of the Scientific and Engineering Republican Unitary Enterprise «Geoinformation Systems» of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The participants of the press event spoke about the current state of affairs in the aerospace industry of our country, as well as about promising projects and joint Belarusian-Russian programs. According to Piotr Vityaz, «On the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia, for the first time prizes in the field of science and technology were awarded under union programs. It is pleasant to note that the teams of the National Academy of Sciences in the space direction participated in the projects that received awards. This suggests that the work of the Academy of Sciences and Belarusians was appreciated at a high union level. A significant result has been achieved in the field of new materials and devices, target equipment, as well as in the field of creating a Belarusian system for the remote sensing of the Earth», the academician noted.

In turn, Sergei Zolotoy emphasized that space technologies have been widely and successfully introduced into the practice of the national economy. «About 11 ministries use information from the orbital constellation, and more than 20 Belarusian organizations use the information from the remote sensing of the Earth. The proceeds from the sale of the products created during the development of the space system exceeded the costs of creation and operation by more than $20 million», said Sergei Zolotoy. The main consumers of the technology are the organizations of the Committee for Land Resources, Geodesy and Cartography, the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Education, law enforcement agencies and others.
