On the eve of Victory Day, on May 3, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will host a presentation of the book The War is The Tragedy and The Memory of The People: Witnesses of The Events Tell: A Collection of Dialect Texts.

The book was published by the publishing house Bielaruskaja Navuka (Belarusian Science). The work was prepared by scientists of the Department of Dialectology and Linguogeography of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the Centre for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The publication The War is The Tragedy and The Memory of The People: Witnesses of The Events Tell is one of the special editions. The book includes text memoirs of witnesses of events that took place on the territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War in 1941–1944, immediately after the liberation of the country, as well as beyond its borders, but mostly not on the front line. These are the stories of people who have been in concentration camps or worked in Germany as serfs for their masters.

The whole book is filled with the pain of storytellers. Their every memory of the horrors they experienced cannot be perceived without empathy, tears of despair and undisguised indignation... It is also impossible because most of the authors-narrators were children during the war.
