At the International Book Fair, scientists of the NAS of Belarus to present a 6-volume series of books on the ethnocultural processes of the regions of Belarus

On March 15, 2024 at 16.00 at the 31st International Book Fair (Minsk, Pieramozhcaw Avenue, 14), a presentation will take place of the fundamental 6-volume series of books Ethnocultural Processes of Historical and Ethnographic Regions of Belarus in the Past and Present, published by the Publishing House Belaruskaya Navuka.

This series of books is the result of a long-term comprehensive ethnological study of the material, social and spiritual culture traditions of the population of the Belarusian regions from antiquity to our time..

The research was conducted by the staff of the Department of Ethnology of the Centre for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the NAS of Belarus. Employees of the BSU and regional universities, the Grodno Regional Executive Committee, the Magilyou Regional Museum of Local History named after E. R. Romanov, as well as leading researchers of the IEA RAS also took part in the creation of the series.

The books are devoted to a comprehensive review of the Eastern Paliessie (2010), Panniamonnie (2014), Central Belarus (Minsk region) (2016), the Belarusian Padzvinnie (Vitebsk region) (2017) and Western Paliessie (Brest region) (2020). In 2023, the final sixth volume dedicated to the Mogilev region was published.

For the first time, the books in the series present a comprehensive study of ethnic and ethno-confessional history, ethnic processes, material, social and spiritual culture traditions of the population of six historical and ethnographic regions of Belarus. An important distinguishing feature of the collective scientific work is the confessional and cultural problem, which has become the central idea of the entire series, since it ultimately determines the civilizational choice of the people. The ethnographic and regional-local identity of Belarus has been revealed through a comprehensive analysis of the rich spiritual and material heritage of the regions.

The six volumes of the series provide systematic information on the problems of material, social and spiritual culture, characteristic for each of the historical and cultural regions of Belarus, as well as for the country as a whole.

The materials are ready for use in scientific and educational activities, in pedagogical and ideological work.
