Book culture in context of international contacts to be discussed in Polotsk

22.05.2017 On 24–25 May 2017, under the auspices of the International Association of Academies of Sciences, the 4th International Scientific Conference "Berkovsky Readings. Book Culture in the Context of International Contacts: to the 500th Anniversary of Belarusian Book Printing" will be held in Polotsk.

The international forum is organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Center for Book Culture Research of the Scientific and Publishing Center "Nauka" of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the RAS Scientific Council "History of World Culture", the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, the Vrublevskis Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.

Scientists of academies of sciences, largest higher educational institutions, museums, archives, libraries of Belarus, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France, and Czechia will participate in the conference. It is planned to discuss a wide range of issues related to the development of book culture, the traditions of writing, text communication, the history of book and manuscript collections, the existence of rare editions, etc. New data concerning the life and work of the outstanding educator Francysk Skaryna, and the historical memory of him will be the subject of discussion at the International Scientific Seminar "Francysk Skaryna, His Personality, Activities, Heritage, and Contemporary Images." Within the framework of the seminar, the exhibition prepared by the Vrublevskis Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Skaryna’s "Biblija Ruskaja" will be opened.
