Leading scientists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Japan, as well as specialists and public authorities, members of the standing commissions of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus will take part in the international scientific conference.
The conference will discuss the results of scientific research on current problems of medical and biological consequences of radiation contamination. Various approaches and objectives of the long-term rehabilitation of contaminated areas, the implementation of countermeasures for pollution control at a remote stage after nuclear accidents at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and at Fukushima-1, as well as at the Semipalatinsk nuclear testing area will be discussed. Reports about existing emergency response systems in case of emergency situations in the areas of radioactive contamination and the problems of overcoming the consequences of radiation accidents will be presented. The practical application of means and methods of human life extension and its quality improvement under anthropogenically increased ionizing and non-ionizing radiation will be considered.

An opening ceremony of the International Scientific Conference "Radiobiology: Challenges of the 21st Century", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Institute of Radiobiology will take place on 27 September at 11.00 in the Institute of Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Gomel, 4 Fedyuninskogo Street, conference hall, 4th floor).

The State Scientific Institution "The Institute of Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" is the leading scientific institution in the country in radiobiology. It was created in 1987 by the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR to solve scientific problems of liquidating the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. In 2003, in accordance with the instructions of the Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on concentrating in Gomel scientific potential, dealing with the problems of liquidation the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, the Institute of Radiobiology was transferred from Minsk to Gomel.
