Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Academician Vladimir Gusakov was elected Head of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS). This decision was made at the 35th meeting of the Council of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS).

September 27–28, 2022 in Moscow, on the basis of the Research Center «Kurchatov Institute» and M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, the 35th meeting of the Council of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) is taking place. It is attended by the presidents and representatives of the leadership of the National Academies of Sciences of Russia, Belarus, China, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Mongolia, Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, National Research Center «Kurchatov Institute» (Russia), Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Russia) and other leading scientific centers.

The meeting will consider the main results of the IAAS activities for five years (2017–2022), the activities of the IAAS scientific councils for 2017–2022. and the creation of the new scientific councils, the election of full members of the IAAS and other important issues. The Heads of the academies of sciences will discuss the issues of the further mutually beneficial cooperation in the key areas of the development of the modern science. The leading scientists from the various countries will make scientific reports.

As part of the 35th meeting of the IAAS Council (September 26 – October 1, 2022), a number of major international scientific events are taking place in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Among them are a meeting of the Council of Young Scientists of the IAAS, a meeting of the Public Council of the Base Organization of the CIS Member States for the Development of the Research Infrastructure of the Megascience Class, and a Meeting of the Session on Biosafety of the Union State.
