On August 8, 2023 at 11.00 in the Center for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" (Surganava str., 1, building 2, room 302), an event of the cinema lecture hall Screen and Time entitled Happy Birthday, Minsk! (to the 956th Founding Anniversary of the City) with the screening of the film sketch New Minsk (Belarusfilm studio, directed by I. Shulman, 1954).

In 1953, a documentary film New Minsk was shot at the Belarusfilm film studio, interesting because it is the only color newsreel of the 50s of the last century, which is not just a document of the era, but also a historical and cultural value. The saturated color of the frames was given by shooting on captured German film. And the voiceover text is read by Leonid Khmara, the narrator of documentary, popular science and feature films. During the years of the Great Patriotic War, he voiced more than 200 issues of front-line newsreels, and in 1945 he commented on the chronicle of the Victory Parade on Red Square.

The creators of the film essay have not bypassed Belarusian science. In addition to the chronicle shots of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, viewers can also see shots with classics of Belarusian literature Jakub Kolas, Kandrat Krapiva and Piatro Gliebka, who are working on a Russian-Belarusian dictionary. And in the following frames, the Head of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR Vasil Kuprevich conducts field classes with employees of the Institute of Biology…
