Delegation of the NAS of Belarus takes part in the work of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress

Time has chosen us! The delegation of the NAS of Belarus, led by Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov, took part in the work of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on April 24–25, 2024. The delegation includes representatives of the Presidium, heads of scientific organizations who have achieved success in their fields of activity, enjoy well-deserved authority in teams and take an active civic position. Among the representatives of the NAS of Belarus is the first cosmonaut, Hero of Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya.

The 7th Belarusian People's Congress became the seventh in a row, but the first in a fundamentally new constitutional status. This supreme representative body of the people's power of the Republic of Belarus will determine the strategic development directions of the society and state, ensure the inviolability of the constitutional system, the continuity of generations and civil harmony.

The most important socio-political event brought together almost 1.2 thousand delegates representing all segments of the population and spheres of activity, determined the vector of the country's development for the near future, set accents and set tasks for the economy and society.

On the first day of the 7th Belarusian People's Congress: - President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was elected Chairman of the 7th Belarusian People's Congress; - Alexander Kosinets was elected Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian People's Congress; - The Presidium of the Belarusian People's Congress was unanimously elected, consisting of 13 people, whose candidacies were included in the ballots for secret voting.

On the second day of the meeting, the delegates approved the Military Doctrine and the Concept of National Security. These are the fundamental documents regulating the state's approaches to ensuring its own security in various spheres, taking into account geopolitical changes in the world, the use of military force in response to existing challenges and threats.

As Oleg Baranov, Academic Secretary of the Department of Biological Sciences of the NAS of Belarus, noted at the meeting of the 7th Belarusian People's Congress, the draft Concept of National Security has a clear scientific justification. "It is important to note that all new provisions of the concept have a clear scientific basis. All the issues have been tested by us and are now giving concrete practical results," Oleg Baranov said. "For example, this concerns countering the spread of invasive species of plants, animals and microorganisms alien to our country, which are capable of changing even entire ecosystems. An integrated approach is more important here than ever, from the organization of sanitary control in border areas to the culture of land use in every household and in enterprises of the agricultural and industrial sector. And the concept in this context gives a clear understanding of what to do, for what and for what purpose."
