On July 1, 2024, at 14:00, on the basis of the Centre for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches (Minsk, vulica Surganava, building 2, Department of Ancient Belarusian Culture, 2nd Floor Gallery), on the eve of the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, the opening of the Light of Memory exhibition will take place.
This is a joint project of the Centre for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the NAS of Belarus, the Petrovskaya Academy of Sciences and Arts (St. Petersburg, Russia) and the Monastery of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (Jasenovac, Serbia).
The exhibition will feature print copies of paintings by Maria the Nun, a resident of the Monastery of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, made in a naive iconographic style and dedicated to the theme of the genocide of Serbs in the Jasenovac concentration camp system, paintings by St. Petersburg artists, as well as ancient Belarusian wooden sculpture from the collections of the Department of Ancient Belarusian Culture of the Centre for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the NAS of Belarus. All the works are filled with a spiritual component and Christian symbols, which reminds us that Victory is a rebirth of the spirit, strengthening of faith, a return to moral values, which have always been the basis of Slavic culture. This exhibition is designed to preserve and convey valuable lessons and traditions related to the military and spiritual history of the peoples of the Slavic world.
