On October 24, the National Academy of Sciences hosted a meeting of the Republican Interdepartmental Working Group on Biosafety.
Academician-Secretary of the Department of Medical Sciences of the NAS of Belarus, Doctor habilitatus in Medicine, Professor Vasiĺ Bogdan made a report on Gene Therapy Drugs: an Innovative Direction of Precision Medicine. The report on Genetically Modified Organisms Approved for use in Economic Activities and Release into the Environment was made by the head of the National Biosafety Coordination Centre of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Galina Mazgova. The meeting emphasized the importance of strict control and assessment of risks associated with the use of GMOs, which in the context of global climate change and food challenges is becoming critically important for the sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex and environmental protection. The necessity of research intensification in the field of biosafety in the Republic of Belarus was emphasized.
