The XIV International Scientific Conference “Microbial Biotechnologies: Fundamental and Applied Aspects” is being held at the NAS of Belarus

On June 3, 2025, the XIV International Scientific Conference “Microbial Biotechnology: Fundamental and Applied Aspects” began its work at the NAS of Belarus, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Microbiology of the NAS of Belarus. The conference is devoted to a wide range of issues related to the physiology, biochemistry and genetics of microorganisms; the development of competitive microbial technologies for agriculture, medicine, industry, and environmental protection.

As Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik stated at the opening of the forum: "It is impossible to overestimate the importance of biotechnology in the modern world. The technological security of the country depends on it. The areas of application of biotechnology are medicine and pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food industry, environmental protection. Today's conference is an opportunity to exchange new ideas, new developments. It is gratifying that today not only representatives of the scientific community have gathered, but also the heads of large enterprises that are engaged in the production of biotechnological products. I hope that we will discuss not only the fundamental aspects of the application of biotechnology and the development of this area of scientific activity, but also applied tasks that will soon be introduced into production and will work for the real sector of the economy."

The grand opening featured an exhibition of developments by the Institute of Microbiology and other organizations of the NAS of Belarus, products from domestic and foreign biotechnological enterprises, and suppliers of equipment and reagents for biological research.

The conference, which will take place from June 2 to 7, 2025, will bring together well-known scientists, young researchers, specialists from the agro-industrial sector, and representatives of biotechnology companies from Belarus, the Russian Federation, the United States of America, Cuba, Moldova, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

At the plenary and sectional sessions of the conference, innovative developments in microbiology and biotechnology will be discussed, and priority areas for further development of science in these areas will be identified. At the conference, scientists and specialists will present the latest information on modern scientifically based approaches to the creation of biopreparations for agriculture, industry, medicine, and environmental protection, and discuss strategies for the transfer of science-intensive biotechnological developments to the real sector of the economy. The conference program includes more than 80 oral and 50 poster presentations in 5 sections: "Physiology, biochemistry and genetics of microorganisms. Collections of microorganisms", "Genetic and metabolic engineering. Bioinformatics", "Biotechnology for agriculture and food production", "Biotechnology for medicine and industry" and "Environmental biotechnology".

The conference will include a round table discussion on the prospects for scientific and scientific-technical cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Traditionally, the international scientific conference “Microbial Biotechnologies: Fundamental and Applied Aspects” is a bridge between science and practice, uniting efforts for the progressive development of industries based on microbial technologies.
