A roundtable discussion entitled "Women's Path to Science: From First Steps to Great Discoveries" was held at the NAS of Belarus
The Presidium of the NAS of Belarus held a roundtable discussion, "Women's Path to Science: From First Steps to Great Discoveries," dedicated to the International Day of Girls and Women in Science. It was attended by representatives of scientific organizations subordinate to the Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Health, RUE "Beltekhosmotr", the director of secondary school No. 196 named after V. Nikiforor, NGO "BSZh" of Pervomaisky district of Minsk, as well as teaching staff and students.
During the roundtable, participants discussed the development and support of women's scientific careers, starting from preschool education. The focus was on intergenerational dialogue and an analysis of the life cycle of developing female scientists, including prominent representatives of Belarusian scientific community.
According to Yulia Kochurko, Head of the Scientific, Organizational, and Legal Work Department of the NAS of Belarus and Chair of the Primary Organization of Belarusian Union of Women, the role of women is constantly growing in the modern world: they actively participate and demonstrate their potential in a wide range of areas – from culture and economics to education and scientific projects. She also noted that women account for more than 50% of researchers under 35 at the Academy of Sciences. Yulia Kochurko also announced that the NAS of Belarus will co-organize the first Women Scientists Forum, which will be held in our country this June. Participants will include women scientists from a wide range of fields, including education, medicine, industry, IT, and more.
The round table concluded on a solemn note: the pupils of kindergarten No. 434 recited congratulatory poems about science.
