Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik congratulated the BRFFR on its 35th anniversary

An extended meeting of the Scientific and Trustee Boards of Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research was held at the Academy of Sciences to mark the 35th anniversary of its founding.

Chief Scientific Secretary Vasily Gursky read out a congratulatory message from Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences, in a ceremonial setting.

"Back in 1991, amid challenging social and economic conditions for both domestic science and the country, the first scientific foundation, not only in Belarus but also in the Commonwealth of Independent States, was established. It used a grant system for supporting science and competitive funding for research, a system practiced worldwide," the congratulatory message reads. "One of the key milestones in the development of the BRFFR was the adoption of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus on March 5, 2002, incorporating the Foundation into the NAS of Belarus. This decision by the Head of State facilitated the Academy of Sciences' fulfillment of one of its main statutory functions—the organization and coordination of fundamental research conducted by all scientific entities."

Vladimir Karanik also noted that over the past years, the Foundation has convincingly proven its relevance, made a significant contribution to the development of promising areas of scientific thought and the creation of a foundation for modern technologies, and accomplished significant work in supporting young scientists.
