Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Alexei Trukhanov is participating in China-SCO Conference on Scientific, Technical and Innovative Cooperation, which is taking place from June 28 to 30 in Qingdao.
The conference will feature various events, including a roundtable discussion on agricultural technology development and a competition for young scientists. Incidentally, Gabriella Lazarenko, a junior researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials of the NAS of Belarus, was recognized in the finals of this competition for her innovative research project on the synthesis of composite biocoatings with unique properties.
In his opening speech at the roundtable, Alexey Trukhanov emphasized the importance of creating a new Alliance for Innovation in Agricultural Science and Technology within the SCO. He noted that today's global challenges, such as climate change, food security, and soil degradation, require joint efforts and the pooling of resources among member countries.
According to him, Belarus, with its significant experience in seed breeding, high-protein feed production, and digitalization of the agro-industrial complex, is ready to make a significant contribution to cooperation. China is demonstrating advances in genetic engineering and automation, while Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other SCO member states possess extensive agricultural resources and related technologies.
During the discussion, three key areas of joint work were identified: the creation of a unified genetic resource bank with a registry of resistant and high-yielding varieties, the exchange of advanced precision farming and renewable energy technologies for the agro-industrial complex, and the training of highly qualified personnel.
"We have a strong scientific foundation and significant expertise in agricultural sciences, and we are open to joint projects. We see enormous potential in creating joint laboratories and sharing expertise, from plant breeding to biotechnology. I am confident that pooling our intellectual and production potential will become a powerful driver for the agricultural sector in all participating countries," emphasized Alexey Trukhanov.
