3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Problems of Biodiversity Conservation and Bioresources Use” opens at NAS of Belarus
On October 7, 2015 the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Problems of Biodiversity Conservation and Bioresources Use” dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Academician N.V.Smolsky opened at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Over 400 participants from 14 countries had applied for entry to the conference.
During the conference inauguration the NASB Chief Scientific Secretary Alexander Kilchevsky mentioned N.V.Smolsky’s huge contribution to the botanical garden development, saying that N.V.Smolsky contributed considerably as a prominent scientist and manager to strengthening the material base and developing the Central Botanical Garden, prepared an entire school of scientists – over 20 PhDs”. Speaking on the conference subject Alexander Kilchevsky stressed that “Belarus is actively involved in the processes of biodiversity conservation. At the facilities of the Institute of Genetics we have established a DNA bank, which contains over 1700 specimens, this creates attractive opportunities for cooperation within the Academy’s Department of Biological Sciences as well as between biologists in Belarus as a whole”.
