On June 27, 2016 Republican Unitary Enterprise (RUE) "Geoinformation Systems" celebrates its 20th anniversary. The Scientific and Engineering Republican Unitary Enterprise "Geoinformation Systems" was founded according to Ordinance № 62 of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus dated of 27.06.1996 on the basis of laboratories and departments of the Institute of Technical Cybernetics of the NASB, which were engaged in the developing in the field of digital cartography and GIS technologies. Currently among the main areas of research and enterprise development are theory and practice of creating geographic information systems and systems for Earth remote sensing; methods and processing of aerospace images of the Earth's surface, development and implementation of the geoinformation software and remote sensing systems using remote sensing data, digital maps and location plans, planning and management of imaging of the Earth with remote sensing satellites; methods, algorithms and software for solving applied tasks of economic entities of the Republic of Belarus and foreign consumers using remote sensing data.

At present the enterprise is involved in the state program "Science intensive technical equipment and technology" (2016-2020) as the leading organization for the subprogram "The exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes."

The Scientific and Engineering Republican Unitary Enterprise "Geoinformation Systems" has developed a hardware-software complexes processing of satellite information for determination the coordinates of fires and floods, development and forecasting of emergency situations of natural and man-made disasters; evaluation of the productivity and utilization of forest resources; formation of digital terrain models, updating of digital maps and plans; forecast crop yields and weather etc.
