The Institute of radiobiology of the NAS of Belarus was awarded the Diploma of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus "For significant contribution of the Institute in overcoming the consequences of the catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and rehabilitation of the affected areas, the implementation of projects aimed at obtaining new fundamental and applied results in the field of radiation protection, health and environmental activities". The Diploma was presented to the Institute Director Igor Cheshik on July 22 during a visit to Gomel the Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Academician Aleksandr Sukalo.

Works of scientists of the Institute are in demand in the scientific world. The fact that accumulated experience of the Institute is not only unique and has no analogues, but also constantly evolving, including on the basis of means and methodology of related sciences, creative approach to experiment and profound erudition specialists largely contributes to this. The Institute currently is involved in research programs at all levels and conducts active international activity.

More than 10 years ago SSI "The Institute of Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" has been transferred in Gomel - the center of the region, the most affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The main purpose of this move was the concentration of scientific personnel and specialized research in order to achieve the most effective overcoming of long-term consequences of the disaster. Over the years, the management and the staff have done a lot to ensure that the Institute has become one of the most important elements of scientific and innovation infrastructure in the region. The direction associated with the radiobiological, radioecological and radiomedical aspect of general scientific issues has become a priority, and still retains an exceptional significance for the country and the region.
