Scientific Director of Finnish Meteorological Institute Professor Sergey Zilitinkevich visits National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

On July 25-26, 2016 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was visited by Sergey Zilitinkevich, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Scientific Director of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Helsinki, Professor-researcher at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), researcher at the A. M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor at Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC). He is a specialist in the field of atmospheric physics.

The purpose of the visit of Professor Sergey Zilitinkevich in the NASB is to establish cooperation with Belarusian colleagues within the framework of PEEX* and to discuss prospects of Belarusian participation in this program.

Professor S. Zilitinkevich gave a presentation of the project PEEX. The seminar was attended by representatives of the Institute for Nature Management, the B. I. Stepanov Institute of Physics, the Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresources of the NAS of Belarus, as well as some structures of BSU, including representatives from the ozonosphere monitoring center, physical and geographical faculties. The workshop discussed plans for further contacts of Belarusian scientists and PEEX.


* PEEX (Pan-Eurasian experiment) – environment and sustainable development within the European Union, Russia and China. This mega-project aims to respond to global challenges such as climate change, air quality and freshwater, forests and biodiversity, land use, demographics and food.
