FAO regional seminar starts at NAS of Belarus

A two-day regional seminar on sustainable future “Sustainable Food Production and Agriculture for the Implementation of the Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030 and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change” started its work at the NAS of Belarus on 19 June 2017. It intends to reconcile the urgent needs and examples from different countries, and technical knowledge and a global assessment of the situation by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Over 100 representatives of the government authorities, farmers' and producers' organizations, FAO partners, and financial institutions from 19 countries of Europe and Central Asia gathered to participate in the event.

Before the opening ceremony, Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, noted that Belarus had managed to solve the problem of food security and sustainable development of village in a short period of time. He spoke about the plans for further cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and FAO, among them a new seminar on child and school meals. At the opening ceremony, Vladimir Gusakov read out a greeting of Andrei Kobyakov, Prime Minister of Belarus.

The purpose of the seminar in Minsk is to determine national objectives of sustainable development for countries participating in the seminar, identify gaps in information systems, and discuss options of filling the gaps.

The program of the seminar also provides consideration of opportunities for establishing partnership and financial cooperation between countries, civil society, scientific community, and international financial institutions.
