Scientific and Production Center for Multipurpose Unmanned Systems takes part in joint command staff exercise on responding to radiation accidents

The Republican Unitary Enterprise Scientific and Production Center of Multipurpose Unmanned Systems of the NAS of Belarus took part in joint command staff exercise on responding to radiation accidents. On October 18, the first stage of the exercise was held. At that stage, joint actions of the subunits of the Belarusian and Russian Emergencies Ministries, and of the troops of radiation, chemical and bacteriological protection of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus were practiced. The main tasks of the exercise were as follows:
  • liquidation of an emergency situation at the transformer substation of external power supply;
  • actions to extract people from under collapsed structures in conditions of high radiation;
  • liquidation of an emergency situation at fuel storage facilities in conditions of a radiation accident;
  • actions in the event of a collision and derailment of railway trains carrying radioactive materials and light oil products;
  • extinguishing fires in ecosystems.
  • During the exercise, 4 sorties of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Busel-M 40 were carried out. In addition, the capabilities of the unmanned aviation complex (UAC) Busel-M 40 and the Burevestnik UAV, developed in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, were demonstrated. In 2018, the Burevestnik UAV will be transferred to the Emergencies Ministry of the Republic of Belarus in order to monitor the radiation in the area of the Belarusian NPP.

    The course of the exercise was observed from the watchtower by the leadership of the Belarusian and Russian Emergencies Ministries, observers from the IAEA, the CSTO countries, Poland and Latvia.
