National Academy of Sciences of Belarus awards Prizes 2019

On 11 December, the NASB Presidium summed up the results of the competition for the prizes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in 2019. The Prize Commission of the NAS of Belarus decided to award eight prizes: in the field of physical and mathematical sciences, in the field of physical and technical sciences, in the field of information technology, in the field of chemistry and Earth sciences, in the field of biological sciences, in the field of medical science, in the field of humanities and social sciences, in the field of agrarian sciences. In total, 22 works were submitted for the competition.

Prizes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in 2019:

in the field of physical and mathematical sciences: Gaponenko Sergei Vasilevich, Director of the Executive Directorate of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research, Academician, D. Sc. in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Kulakovich Olga Sergeevna, Deputy Head of the Nanophotonics Centre at the B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the NAS of Belarus, PhD in Chemical Sciences, abd Shabunya-Klyachkovskaya Elena Vladimirovna, Leading Researcher at the B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the NAS of Belarus, PhD in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor, were awarded for a series of works on optical processes in metal-dielectric nanostructures and development of recommendations for their practical application in sensorics and optoelectronics;

in the field of information technology: Bibilo Petr Nikolaevich, Head of Laboratory (United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus), D.Sc. in Engineering Sciences, Professor, was awarded for a series of works on the optimization of functional and structural models of digital devices in the automated design of ultra-large integrated circuits;

in the field of physical-technical and technical sciences - Algin Vladimir Borisovich, Deputy Head of the R&D Center “Mining machinery” at the State Scientific Institution “Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor; Ishin Mikalai Mikalaevich, Head of the R&D Center “Mining machinery” at the State Scientific Institution “Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”, Doctor of technical sciences, Associate professor; Paddubka Siarhei Nikalaevich, Director General of the State Scientific Institution “Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, for the cycle of work "Life mechanics of transmission: complex of methods for calculations, design and diagnostics that based on an information model of a technically complicated items to create and ensure the dependability of transmissions";

in the field of chemical sciences and Earth sciences: Usanov Sergei Aleksandrovich, Academician Secretary of the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Corresponding Member, D.Sc. in Chemical Sciences, Professor, Yantsevich Aleksei Viktorovich, Head of Laboratory (Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus), PhD in Chemical Sciences, and Shchur Veronika Vladimirovna, Research Assistant (Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus), were awarded for a series of works on developing of innovative automated methods for obtaining synthetic genes for protein engineering, gene therapy and synthetic biology;

in the field of biological sciences: Mosse Irma Borisovna, Head of Laboratory (Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NAS of Belarus), D.Sc. in Biological Sciences, Professor, and Morozik Pavel Mikhailovich, Leading Researcher (Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NAS of Belarus), PhD in Biological Sciences, Professor, were awarded for a series of works on developing and implementing molecular genetic technologies for assessing predisposition to socially significant diseases and high sports achievements;

in the field of medical sciences: Rubnikovich Sergei Petrovich, Head of Department (Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education), D.Sc. in Medical Sciences, Professor, and Volotovsky Igor Dmitrievich, Head of Laboratory (Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the NAS of Belarus), Academician, D.Sc. in Biological Sciences, Professor, were awarded for a series of works on developing and implementing new innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment of patients with dental pathology including the use of stem cells as biotransplants;

in the field of humanities and social sciences: Bulko Olga Semenovna, Head of Department (Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus), PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, was awarded for a series of works on developing service sector in the Republic of Belarus;

in the field of agricultural sciences: Sheiko Ivan Pavlovich, First Deputy Director-General of the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on Livestock, Academician, D.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Koronets Ivan Nikolaevich, Head of Laboratory (Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on Livestock), PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Professor, and Khramchenko Nikolai Mikhailovich, Head of Laboratory (Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on Livestock), PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor, were awarded for a series of works on developing selection and genetic techniques and methods for assessing the breeding value of farm animals to accelerate the selection and breed-forming processes.

The Prizes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were established in 1995 to support Belarusian scientists whose scientific work was recognized in the Republic of Belarus and abroad, had a significant impact on the implementation of state programs, contributed to the development of innovation, increase the efficiency of the country's economy, ensure food security and solve problems of environmental protection and public health, as well as to stimulate the creative activity and professional growth of scientists. Since 2017, competition for the Prizes of the NAS of Belarus has been held annually. There are 8 prizes of 250 basic units each.
