Young Academy of Norway and Letten Foundation invite to compete for prize for young researchers
The Young Academy of Norway and the Letten Foundation invite to compete for the Letten Prize for young researchers. The Prize is awarded every other year to researchers under the age of 45, working in the fields of health, environment, development and equality in many aspects of human life.
The deadline is 31 May 2018. Researchers from all over the world can apply for the Prize of 2 million NOK (about 215 000 EUR/260 000 USD) which will be awarded in Oslo on September 13, 2018.
NASB representatives take part in opening of exhibition "Spiridon Sobol, Belarusian Printer"
On 10 April 2018, a temporary exhibition "Spiridon Sobol, Belarusian Printer" opened at the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature. This is the project prepared jointly with the Y. Kolas Central Scientific Library of the NAS of Belarus, the Museum of History of Mogilev, the National Library of Belarus, and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus. The exhibition presents rare editions of the 17th century, including the lifetime edition of Spiridon Sobol "Limanar", printed in Kiev in 1628, etc.
Ivan V. Saverchenko, Director of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literature of the NAS of Belarus, delivered his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony and emphasized the need to popularize Spiridon Sobol publications by digitizing them. Polina D. Skurko, Researcher of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the NAS of Belarus, told about interesting publications stored in the library and the work of the department on digitizing old printed publications such as "Leksikon Slavenorosskiy" (they are presented on the temporary exhibition).
Press conference “Year of Native Land: Historical and Cultural Heritage of Small Towns and Settlements of Belarus” held
On 13 April 2018, the press conference “Year of Native Land: Historical and Cultural Heritage of Small Towns and Settlements of Belarus” was held at the Press Center of the Press House. Vadim Lakiza, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the NASB Institute of History, and Boris Lazuko, Head of the Department of Ancient Belarusian Culture of the NASB Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research, represented the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
NAS of Belarus to host largest forum of specialists in titanium
For the first time in 16 years, Belarus will host a largest forum of specialists in titanium. On 19 April 2018 (Thursday), at 9:00 a.m., a grand opening of the 16th International conference «Ti-2018 in the CIS» will be held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (praspiekt Niezaliežnasci, 66, large conference hall). In addition to the regular participants of the conference from the CIS countries (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Belarus), the leading experts from Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Poland, China, Ireland, USA, etc. will also take part on the forum. In total, more than 200 people from 15 countries worldwide plan to take part in the conference. Representatives of the largest Chinese state aerospace company AVIC, the Titan Interstate Association, the National Research Center «Kurchatov Institute», the Moscow Aviation Institute, the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau (Ukraine), etc. will arrive in Minsk.
NASB Council of Young Scientists invites to Young Scientist School “Turnkey Scientist 2018”
From 29 May to 1 June 2018, the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus conducts the Second Young Scientist School “Turnkey Scientist 2018.” The School is an intensive series of lectures, seminars, master classes, practical classes and round tables of leading scientists of the NAS of Belarus and invited lecturers for undergraduates, graduate students and young scientists on issues that are necessary for successful and effective work in science.
Opening of International Seminar of PanGeo Alliance of Earth Observation Satellites Operators to be held on April 18
On 18 April 2018, at 11:00 a.m., the International Seminar of the PanGeo Alliance of Earth Observation Satellites Operators will open in the hotel Europe (vul. Internacyjanaĺnaja, 28, Conference Hall, 7th floor). Representatives of large companies from China, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Kazakhstan, Singapore, and Canada will come to Minsk. The event is organized by the Scientific and Engineering Republican Unitary Enterprise Geoinformation Systems of the NAS of Belarus. On 18–19 April 2018, the forum participants are going to discuss current problems of the global Earth observation data market, and new technological solutions in the interest of potential consumers. Members of the PanGeo Alliance of Earth Observation Satellites Operators will also visit the NASB Geoinformation Systems unitary enterprise.
As previously reported, the NASB Geoinformation Systems unitary enterprise became a member of the International PanGeo Alliance of Earth Observation Satellite Operators in Paris on September 13, 2017.
Scientists of NAS of Belarus take part in press conference devoted to World Day of Aviation and Astronautics
On 11 April 2018, a press conference devoted to the World Day of Aviation and Astronautics was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. Alexander Tuzikov, Director General of the NASB United Institute of Informatics Problems, NASB Corresponding Member; Boris Chernukha, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Geoinformation Systems Unitary Enterprise; and Sergey Korenyako, Head of the Department of Joint Programs of Space and Information Technologies of the NASB United Institute of Informatics Problems, represented the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus at the press conference.
As Alexander Tuzikov told journalists, the International Congress of the Association of Space Flights Participants will be held in Minsk on September 9-15. This large-scale forum will gather legendary researchers of outer space, participants of various space programs of the Soviet Union, Russia, and the USA (NASA programs).
NAS of Belarus invites to open lecture on blockchain technology
On invitation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chair of Economic Informatics of the Faculty of Economics of the Belarusian State University, Artem Genkin and Alexey Mikheev, the authors of the book "Blockchain: How It Works and What Awaits Us Tomorrow", will visit Minsk. Artem Genkin is an expert in the theory of money and regulation of advanced technologies, Professor, Doctor of Economics, Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, President of the Center for the Protection of Depositors and Investors, a founder of an electronic business magazine. Alexei Mikheev is a practitioner in the field of investment business, Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Administration and Law of MGIMO.
On 23 April 2018, at 4:00 p.m., they will deliver an open lecture devoted to the blockchain technology and the issues of transformation of money, society and state due to digitalization. The lecture will inspire ideas, open new opportunities for development, familiarize with mining, crypto industry and varieties of ICO.
4th International Student Natural Sciences Tournament opens at NAS of Belarus
On 10 April 2018, the 4th International Student Natural Sciences Tournament opened at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The NAS of Belarus organizes the event together with the Belarusian State University for the fourth time.
Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, greeted the audience at the opening ceremony and estimated the expansion of the participants’ geography as a sign of importance and significance of the event. Over the past years, more than 200 students and undergraduates from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine have participated in the tournament. This year, students from France and Germany take part in the tournament for the first time. In his welcome speech, Vladimir Gusakov acquainted students with the most significant developments of the NASB organizations, mainly in the field of natural sciences. He also invited young scientists to further cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and emphasized that the Academy would be glad to welcome young talented undergraduates, graduate students and researchers.
NAS of Belarus represents about forty innovations for industry at industrial and technological forum
On 10–13 April 2018, the 18th international specialized exhibition Welding and Cutting 2018 is held in Minsk as a part of the annual industrial and technological forum. Scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus represent about forty innovative developments and technologies for industry there.
The State Scientific and Production Amalgamation of Powder Metallurgy of the NAS of Belarus demonstrates additive technologies for manufacturing complex shape parts on a three-dimensional computer model by sequential application of material. The developers say that these technologies can be successfully applied in the aerospace industry, in manufacture of aircraft engine parts or their components, and medical implants and tools, as well as in cooling systems for microelectronics. The amalgamation specialists also represent a new method of welding without melting the material, namely stirring friction welding.
New joint company Aviation Technologies and Systems set up by NAS of Belarus and aerospace company AVIC
A new joint company Aviation Technologies and Systems has been set up by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the largest Chinese aerospace company AVIC. It will work in the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone.
On 3 April 2018, a tripartite meeting of NASB representatives, officials of the company for the development of the industrial park, and leaders of the AVIC company (by video conference), was held in the Great Stone industrial park. As a result of the meeting, the charter of the Aviation Technologies and Systems company was approved, and the management bodies of the new joint venture were elected, namely a board of directors and Director General.
Farewell to NASB Academician Vladimir A. Pilipovich
On 2 April 2018, Vladimir Antonovich Pilipovich, winner of the State Prize of the USSR, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, died in his 88th year.
The farewell will begin in the Great Conference Hall of the NAS of Belarus on 5 April 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
A civil funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m.
Viktor Shabailov, NASB Corresponding Member, passed away
On 2 April 2018, Viktor I. Shabailov, a well-known scientist in the field of state law, Doctor of Jurisprudence, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a person who made a significant contribution to the development of the Belarusian jurisprudence, died.
The life path of Viktor I. Shabailov is a worthy example of serving science. Diligence, professionalism, rich life and practical experience, the results of his scientific activity allow us to speak of Viktor Ivanovich Shabailov as a major scientist of our time.
NAS of Belarus signes memorandums with five Sudanese universities
The NAS of Belarus signed memorandums of understanding with the Sudan University of Science & Technology, the University of Western Kordofan, the Blue Nile University, the Open University of Sudan, and the African Science Park (Sudan). Ihar I. Hancharonak, Rector of the Researchers Training Institute, acted on behalf of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus during the visit of delegation of heads of eight Belarusian universities to Sudan in the framework of the Belarus-Sudan University Forum (March 27–28, 2018).
The agreements reached are to provide the students, postgraduates, and faculty staff academic mobility, hold joint scientific research, including the programs Erasmus+ and Horizont 2020, and exchange information and technologies. Sudan showed special interest in the opportunity of training researchers in nuclear physics, petrochemistry, and agricultural sciences.
NASB United Institute of Informatics Problems takes part in development and implementation of pilot project “Kryčaŭ as Small Smart Town. Developing Together”
The Kryčaŭ District hosted the 2nd scientific and practical conference on modern methods and means of integrated digital control of a small town like Kryčaŭ. At the conference, the experts discussed conceptual and practical approaches to the introduction of innovative digital technologies to control the territory of a small city like Kryčaŭ, and the concept of a pilot project “Kryčaŭ as Small Smart Town. Developing Together” was presented. The conference focused on innovative potential of the town necessary to implement technologies of digital control of a small city territory. The issue of unified information space as the main component of an integrated information system of regional management and interaction of government bodies and citizens was also touched upon.
Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture and Minsk Secondary School No. 147 invite to opening of exhibition of children works
The Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture of the Center for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the NAS of Belarus and Minsk Secondary School No. 147 invite to opening of exhibition of the school pupils works. The exhibition will be presented on 5 April 2018, at 3:00 p.m., at the following address: Minsk, vul. Surhanava, ½.
The presentation will be attended by representatives of the Minsk Soviet District administration, the NASB Department of the Humanities and Arts, the NASB Center for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research, the organizers of the exhibition project, and, naturally, the pupils of Minsk Secondary School No. 147, who are the works of art authors.
Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering to host 25th Godnev Readings
On 6 April 2018, the State Scientific Institution Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will host the 25th Godnev Readings. At the Readings, Lyudmila F. Kabashnikova, NASB Corresponding Member, Doctor of Biology, Associate Professor, Head of a laboratory, will deliver a lecture “Photosynthetic Apparatus and Stress in Plants.” The Godnev Readings are devoted to the 90th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The lecture is organised by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the NASB Department of Biological Sciences, the NASB Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering, and the Belarusian Public Association of Photobiologists and Biophysicists.

NASB organizations to take part in 21st International Specialized Exhibition “TechInnoProm”
Organizations of the NAS of Belarus will take part in the 21st International Specialized Exhibition "TechInnoProm" in Minsk on 29 May – 1 June 2018.
This exhibition is a wide international project on demonstrating of the latest technologies and innovations in industry held in the framework of Belarusian Industrial Forum – 2018 under the patronage of the Government and with the official support of the national authorities, executive authorities of Minsk and regions, institutions of science and education, public associations.
