On the 13th of August, 2020, the National Press Centre of the Republic of Belarus held a press conference entitled “Contemporary Belarusian Archelogy: why it is important for the national science and what may be of interest to the average person?”

The event involved Vadim Lakiza, the Deputy Scientific Director of the State Scientific Institution Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Sergey Linevich, the Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists, Research Associate of the Archeology Department of the State Scientific Institution Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Vadim Lakiza pointed to a tendency towards increased number of obtained permissions for archeological studies on the entire territory of the Republic of Belarus - primarily, the studies in the areas of new-built constructions. 154 permissions have been already issued since the beginning of this year. Further, the participants provided more detailed information on specific projects - in the Biełaviežskaja Pušča, Polack, Biešankovičy District, Bialyničy, etc.

Thus, an open-air archeological museum is built on the territory of Biełaviežskaja Pušča. It is expected to become a significant new tourist attraction and will include six museum complexes showing features of development of material and spiritual culture in Belarus in different historical periods - from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. “The scientists studied three archeological landmarks: the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age. We obtained very valuable materials for characterization of the material and spiritual culture of primitive people living of these lands several thousands of years ago,” Vadim Lakiza said. “These materials include fragments of ceramics, drilledstone axe, and Scythian arrowhead. The materials are used for reconstruction of artifacts which will be included into the open-air museum display”.
