On March 11, 2021 a press conference “Innovation is a step into the future. Scientific and technical development of the Republic of Belarus for 2021-2025” was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. The speakers from the Academy of Sciences at the event were the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov and the Chief Scientific Secretary of the NAS of Belarus Andrey Ivanets. They spoke in detail about the directions that will form the basis for the implementation of the future model of socio-economic development “Intellectual Belarus” and the construction of an IT-country. It was emphasized that the main task of the scientific field for the next five years is to implement the proposals for implementation in a new cycle of fundamental and applied research.

The Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov drew attention to the fact that in order to solve the tasks set at the Belarusian People’s Congress, implement the Science and Technology 2018-2040 strategy, scientific support of the Intellectual Belarus megaproject, in the near future, scientists will have to continue work on space research and digital geoinformation technologies, form a scientific a basis for creating artificial intelligence, technologies for intelligent processing of big data based on a single supercomputer platform of cluster architecture. It is also planned to create an experimental base for the development of solar energy, to ensure the receipt of timely accurate information on the movement of goods within the framework of the economic activities of organizations to create the necessary conditions to reduce the illegal turnover of industrial products and its impact on the development of the state economy. The Chief Scientific Secretary of the NAS of Belarus stressed that the key direction in the development of domestic science remains work to attract young people to the scientific field, the focus is on human resources. Andrey Ivanets said that already on March 17, the scientific and practical forum “Intellectual Youth: from SMART initiative to SMART city”, will take place in Hlybokaye, which will bring together young people from three districts of the Vitebs region. The youth of the Hlybokaye, Doshytsy and Ushachy districts will meet with their peers and representatives of the authorities, educational, scientific and industrial spheres. They will discuss promising areas of interaction for the creation and implementation of advanced developments in education, health protection and intelligent transformation of urban infrastructure not only in large cities, where in the next five years it is planned to implement the concept of a smart city, but also in small settlements. There will be a meeting with deputies of the House of Representatives, representatives of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization, the Council of Young Scientists of the NAS of Belarus, the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park “Great Stone”, representatives of the specialized divisions of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the District Executive Committee.
