The action time to coincide with the Day of the Polar Explorer and the meeting on the 13th Belarusian Antarctica Expedition will be held at the House of Moscow

On May 22, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the “Day of Polar Cinema” event dedicated to the Day of the Polar Explorer (May 21*) and the meeting of the 13th Belarusian Antarctica Expedition will be held at the House of Moscow (). The organizers of the event or the representative office of the Moscow State Enterprise “Moscow Center for International Cooperation”, the NAS of Belarus, the Republican Center for Polar Researchers of the NAS of Belarus and the project “Unknown heroes of the north”.

The celebrations will be attended by veteran polar explorers (members of Soviet and Belarusian Antarctica expedition), members of the 13th Belarusian Antarctica expedition, representatives of scientific organizations of the Academy of Sciences: Departments of biological sciences, physics, mathematics, informatics, chemistry and the Earth sciences; leaders and members of the Belarusian Geographical Society. Students of the Faculty of Geography and Biology of the Belarusian State University, the Faculty of Screen Arts of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, representatives of the Russian Embassy and the country’s public are invited to a meeting with polar explorers of different generations.

The exhibition “Activities of the Republic of Belarus in Antarctica” will be organized in the lobby of the House of Moscow (11:00 – 11:45 a.m.); the presentation of the monograph “Scientific research of Belarus in the Antarctic” published in April 2021 (author - academician Vladimir Loginov) will take place. Photo and video materials, various exhibits related to the development of the Ice Continent will be shown: a model of the Belarusian Antarctic Station, a collection of flora and fauna, minerals and rocks, scientific equipment used in research (the “Gnome” underwater vehicle, etc.).

The participants of the event will be shown a new film about the activities of the 13th Belarusian Antarctica Expedition. During the solemn part, the participants of the polar expeditions will be greeted by the heads of the NAS of Belarus, the representative office of the Moscow State Enterprise “Moscow Center for International Cooperation”. Congratulations to the participants of the 13th Belarusian Antarctica Expedition will be shown the film “376 days on a drifting ice floe” (1951).

* Polar Explorer’s Day is a professional holiday established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 2013 in recognition of the merits of polar explorers. Celebrated on May 21 in honor of the opening on May 21, 1937 of the first drifting Polar Station “North Pole – 1” (“NP-1”).
