On May 25, 2021, the National Press Center of the Republic Belarus hosted a press conference “Scientific support of the development of the chemical industry of the Republic of Belarus” dedicated to the Day of Chemist.
The speakers at the event were Academician-Secretary of the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences of the NAS of Belarus, corresponding member of the NAS of Belarus Sergey Usanov, Director of the SSI “Institute of Physical and Organic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus”, Academician, Alexander Bildyukevich, head of the department of physics-chemistry of film materials, the SSI “Institute of Chemistry of New Materials”, Academician of the NAS of Belsrus Vladimir Agabekov and Director of the SSI “the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus” Svetlana V. Babitskaya.
As Sergey Usanov told reporters, the Department of Chemistry and its structures work practically for all sectors of the national economy. The organization employs over 1 thousand people. The scientist spoke about the most important results achieved in 2020: “Thus, at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the NAS, new types of sorbents have been created, which allow selectively removing heavy metal ions, which are toxic to humans. Another important achievement of the Institute is the development of recycled packaging paper, which has quality barriers and is used to preserve products with high fat and moisture content”.
Alexander Bildyukevich spoke about the main directions of work the Institute of Physical and Organic Chemistry. Today the Institute occupies a position of the world leader in the development, production and use of ion-exchange fibrous materials. The Institute’s successful work in the field of creating polymer membrane and membrane technologies, developing new biologically active compositions, drug substances is widely known.
Vladimir Agabekov spoke about the joint work of scientists and production workers. A striking achievement of the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials was the development of a technology for the synthesis technology for the light stabilizer of the DNC. These results were implemented at OJSC “SvetlogorsKhimvolokno” and this year it is planned to produce about 14.5 tons of products. The Institute is also actively working on the creation of graphite-enriched materials for 3-D printing.
Speaking about the creation of new drugs Director the SSI “the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus” Svetlana V. Babitskaya emphasized: “Together with the Ministry of Health, scientists have implemented a program for the development of the pharmaceutical industry. On the basis of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus, the SPC “KhirmPharmSintez” was created for the low-tonnage production of high-tech pharmaceutical substances”. The Institute carries out large-scale applied research, solves urgent problems in the field of chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, organically combines the development of science with production, with the interest of a person and society.
