On June 30, 2021, the NAS of Belarus hosted a solemn meeting dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus and the Day of the Economist (June 30). The event was attended by the country’s leading economists, representatives of ministries and departments.

Director of the Institute of Economics Vasil Gurskov made a report on the achievements of the research organizations employees.

As the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, Academician Vladimir Gusakov noted, speaking and the ceremony, “The world economy is becoming different. Transnational companies and corporations possessing large raw materials and financial resources are aimed not “fair” competition, but capture it and you mix in anyway. Competition in the classical sense is a thing of the past. It is only for developing countries that the utopian ideas of a free, market economy are still being implemented, where the state is not even allowed to protect the interest of its national producer”, stressed Vladimir Gusakov. “It is necessary to find new drivers economic development and mechanisms to ensure the country’s economic security, which are able to ensure long-term sustainability and quality of economic growth spirit a special role in the solution on these tasks is assigned to us – scientists-economists. Today, it is necessary to search for truly new ways, forms and mechanisms that would make it possible not only to maintain the achieved level of economic development, but also to significantly accelerate it, to make it sustainable, despite all the challenges and threats”, noted the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus.

For their great contributions to the development of the theory and methodology of the national socio-economic model, the creation of the Belarusian economic school, and in connection with the 90th anniversary, the staff of the Institute of Economics was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the NAS of Belarus. A large group of scientists of the scientific organization were presented with awards.

The Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was founded in 1931 in the department on the Belarusian Academy of Sciences and is the country’s leading research center in the field of economic science. For more than 90 years, the Institute has been conducting fundamental and applied scientific research on the topic of problems of the national and world economy, identifying fundamentally new ways of scientific and technological progress. The Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus is actively working towards the development of practical recommendations on socio-economic policy, acts as a scientific expert of the most important scientific, technical and national economic programs, innovation projects, as well as drafts normative legal acts on economics.
