Celebrations dedicated to the Day of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus took place

On October 13, 2022, the academic community celebrated National Academy of Sciences Day for the first time.

The decision of the Bureau of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus dated July 20, 2022 to consider October 13 as the Day of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is not accidental. It was on October 13, 1928, as shown by the latest results of scientific research by scientists from the Institute of History and previously unknown archival documentary materials, that the decision of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR was adopted on the reorganization of the Institute of Belarusian Culture into the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. And already on October 14, 1928, the resolution of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR was published in the central newspapers of Belarus.

The opening of the First Exhibition-Forum of IT-Academgrad «Artificial Intelligence in Belarus» was timed to coincide with this holiday. The organizers were the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Joint Institute for Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. More than 100 projects were presented at the exhibition – from problems in the field of agriculture to intellectual healthcare. The results of their scientific research were demonstrated by 32 organizations of the country of various fields of activity and forms of ownership. These are research organizations, higher educational institutions, manufacturing enterprises engaged in research in the field of the application of the artificial intelligence (AI) methods. As the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov noted, «By organizing this exhibition, we set the task of comparing the positions – what our country has in the field of the artificial intelligence». Speaking about the importance of the digitalization, Vladimir Gusakov noted that today it is the most rapidly developing area in the world. «Digital twins and digitalization in a broad sense, computerization, software, developments in the field of microelectronics, chips are now very relevant. The Head of state set the task of making Belarus an IT country, and we are working in this context. We are actively developing a program for the development of microelectronics, and we will soon present it to the government», said Vladimir Gusakov.

The celebrations continued into the afternoon. A meeting of the scientific community dedicated to the Day of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was held. It was attended by the academicians, corresponding members, heads of the scientific organizations of the Academy of Sciences, famous scientists, young people. The best researchers of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were awarded. The best works of the exhibition «Artificial Intelligence in Belarus» were also awarded diplomas. The celebrations ended with a big festive concert of the musical chapel of the Center for Studies of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
