Meeting with representatives of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics CAS

On February 8, 2023, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus S.A. Chizhik held an online meeting with representatives of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of CAS.

The meeting was attended by: Academician-Secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Informatics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus A.G. Shumilin, Head of the Main Department of International Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Apparatus of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus V.V. Podkopaev, Director of the Institute of Physics named after B.I. Stepanov of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus M.V. Bogdanovich, Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of the University of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus D.V. Mazarchuk and V.Y. Plavsky, Deputy Director of the Institute of Physics named after B.I. Stepanov of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. From the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Director of the International Student Office Huang Dingcheng, the Scientific Director of the International Student Office Hu Mengling, the public relations specialist of the Admissions Committee Cao Cheng, and from the Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics – Deputy Director Wang Jianli, Director of the Department of International Cooperation Zhang Liming, Director of the Graduate School Fan Xiujun, Director of the Photonic Laboratory Li Wei, Deputy Director of the Graduate School Li Shujun, Head of the Department of International Cooperation Yu Cun and Head of the Graduate School Wang Mengmen took part.

The University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded in 1978. Currently, a total of 1980 international students from 99 countries study at the University. Postgraduate studies are represented by 160 directions available to international students. The Master's program includes 200 areas, 57 of which are taught in English.

Founded in 1952, Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics specializes in the study of luminescence, applied optics, optical engineering, fine mechanics and instrumentation. Currently, the Institute has 2,578 employees, including three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 343 research professors and 739 research associate professors.

Chinese colleagues delivered presentations about studying at CAS University and about the activities of the Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics. Following the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to consider the possibility of initiating joint programs in the field of training highly qualified scientific personnel, as well as working out promising areas of cooperation between the organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of the CAS in the field of new materials and nanotechnology, energy, optics and laser physics.
