On May 26, 2023, a joint meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Russian Academy of Sciences was held, which was chaired by Academician Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, and Academician Gennady Krasnikov, President of the RAS. The event was attended by the State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev and the President of the Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk.

The participants of the joint meeting of the Presidium of the RAS and the NAS of Belarus considered a number of important issues. Among them there are the most important results of the work of the RAS and the NAS of Belarus on the results of 2021–2022; the progress of the Union State programs implementation with the participation of the RAS and the NAS of Belarus organizations and promising projects of programs, the strategy of scientific and technological development of the Union State. The scientific elite of the two countries discussed research and development in the field of microelectronics in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, the Research Program of the branch of the Kurchatov Institute in the Republic of Belarus, joint Belarusian-Russian projects within the programs of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research and the Russian Science Foundation. Special attention was paid to the activities of the RAS and the NAS of Belarus to preserve the historical memory of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.

As Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov noted, Belarusian and Russian scientists intend to develop cooperation in the field of space, microelectronics and software development. "More than 50 scientific programs of the Union State have already been completed, the Academy of Sciences of Belarus has participated in about 30 programs. They concerned among other things space. Our Belarusian space system was created thanks to this program. A Belarusian supercomputer has also been created, of which we are proud, there is already a whole series. The nuclear power industry is developing very actively, much has been done in the field of materials science, the latest materials for mechanical engineering and instrumentation. Microelectronics, agriculture, pharmacy: attention is paid to all these areas," Vladimir Gusakov said.

At a joint meeting of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus and the RAS, a Roadmap for the development of cooperation between the organizations of the NAS of Belarus and the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was signed. For 2023–2025. The document was signed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, Academician Sergei Chizhik and the Chairman of the Far Eastern Branch of the RAS, Academician Yuri Kulchin.

On the same day, Academician Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, presented diplomas of a foreign member of the RAS and a badge of the RAS to foreign members of the RAS, eight academicians and corresponding members of the NAS of Belarus. As Gennady Krasnikov noted, today 18 members of the NAS of Belarus are members of the RAS. In turn, 9 members of the RAS are members of the NAS of Belarus.
