Press conference held on the Danger of the Invasive Species of Flora Spread. The Sosnovsky's Hogweed, Goldenrod and Other Types of Invasive Plants Control

On May 3, a press conference was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus on the Danger of the Invasive Species of Flora Spread. The Sosnovsky's Hogweed, Goldenrod and Other Types of Invasive Plants Control. The speakers from the NAS of Belarus were: Director of the Institute of Experimental Botany Dmitry Grummo, Head of the Flora Cadastre sector of the Institute of Experimental Botany Oleg Maslovsky and Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of Plant Protection Yelena Yakimovich.

At the press conference, the scientists spoke about research directions in the field of invasive flora species, control and disposal methods of invasive plant species, drugs against invasive plant species developed at the Academy of Sciences. According to Oleg Maslovsky, Head of the Flora Cadastre sector of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the NAS of Belarus, Doctor of Biological Sciences, compared with neighboring countries, the successes in the fight against invasive species in Belarus are quite significant. "Belarusian scientists have developed a TCEP, which fully prescribes measures on how to deal with invasive species. This is not only the introduction of some chemicals, but also the whole complex, starting with preparatory measures, accounting for areas, monitoring the effectiveness of measures and other preventive measures," Oleg Maslovsky noted. Yelena Yakimovich, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Institute of Plant Protection, Candidate of Agricultural Science, Associate Professor, stressed that good results in controlling invasive plant species in Belarus were achieved due to the fact that scientists worked together. "We collaborated with the Institute of Experimental Botany, and we were also supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. Thus, the support of our fellow scientists helped us to develop effective protective measures to suppress invasive plant species. The relevant technical codes of established practice have been developed," stated Yelena Yakimovich.
