Press conference held on Climate Change and its Impact on Weather-Dependent Industries

On July 5, 2024, a press conference on Climate Change and its Impact on Weather-Dependent Industries was held at the BelTA Press Centre. Viktor Melnik, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Climate Research at the Institute of Environmental Management of the NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, took part in the press conference on behalf of the NAS of Belarus. The representative of the NAS spoke about the forecasts on climate change in Belarus. "All trends in air temperature and precipitation remain unchanged. The temperature rise will continue regardless of the concentrations of greenhouse gases. We have calculations and forecasts for each Voblasc up to 2050. In general, we can give a climate assessment to each Rajon. For example, by 2030-2040, the temperature in the Viciebsk Voblasc will be about the same as it is now in Paliessie," Viktor Melnik drew attention.

Speaking about possible scenarios of climate change, the scientist noted that by 2050, if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, it is planned that the temperature increases by about 1.5 degrees. And according to the most unpleasant scenario, if greenhouse gas emissions do not decrease, the temperature will rise by about 3 degrees. At the same time, the temperature will rise mainly in summer and autumn.

At the end of the press conference, the scientist answered numerous questions from journalists.
